Thanks to T. Rob. UT beat Bama all four yrs. I was in HS, which was great since all of our coaches except one was a Bama fan. I got see him play only once in person, and it was my first trip to Neyland, unfortunately it was the 84 UK game.:banghead2:

My revisionist history has us not playing UK in '84. Of course, it also has us not hiring a coach with a losing record at a directional school who happened to be the son of a well known coach.

Shuler and it is really not that close, then TRob, Peyton, and Condrege.

As far as pure physical talent, no, I still take TRob. As far as best qbs, Shuler definitely top 3, but behind Peyton and TRob IMO.

bridge too far. Robinson isn't top 4. I'd rather have Kelly and Holloway. Clausen close.

I tend to agree with TRob having the most talent, but Shuler was one tough SOB.

TN could have used the spike rule in the 1984 KY game. The ball had to be thrown to the the sideline to stop the clock. TN was driving for the win, but the final play was T-Rob throwing the ball to the west sideline as time expired. In hindsight, with 3 seconds from the 13 yard line, TN should have taken a shot into the end zone

T Rob was very "talented" but is overrated in the minds of a lot of fans.

Comp% 61%. 23 TD 17 int. 187 rush yards, 1.4 ypc

Dobbs:

Comp % 60%. 27TD 18 int. 1400 rush yards, 4.5 ypc 20 TDs

Now for a wild comparison:

Jon Crompton's senior season:

58.3% 2800yds 27TD 13int

No, no, no. You must've never seen TRob play to even try to make thst comparison. I'm a believer in statistics as typically being strong measurements of performance. But that don't cut it. Different eras, different styles of offense. TRob was much better than Dobbs and it's embarrassing that you'd even consider trying to compare Crompton to him.

With all due respect.....WHAT?!? I have high opinions of those other 3 for sure, but none of them were near the overall talent that TRob was IMO.

Redskins, and he did play pretty well. I had hoped he would stick after the strike ended.

Off top of head and may be wrong....they played three games while strike was going. Tony played for the Redskins. In an exciting game, he played very well and beat the Cowboys. As you say, I was hoping he would stick with the team.

I agree with your top three. I always wonder what might have happened had TR not gotten hurt against Alabama. That was the beginning of his problems.

Now the legendary quarterback, who played in the NFL for the Washington Redskins, plans to be at Bristol Motor Speedway on Saturday to see his alma mater take on Virginia Tech in the Pilot/Flying J Battle at Bristol. He recently visited the massive stadium and thought about what it will be like for the current group of players to take part in one Tennessee tradition.

“There is nothing like running through the T at UT, but playing here would be hard to explain,” he said. “I think I would throughly enjoy it.”

Many throughly enjoyed watching Robinson play and his style as a dual-threat quarterback has drawn comparisons with current Vols signal caller Josh Dobbs. Robinson sees it himself. “He reminds me of myself a little bit,” Robinson said. “He is a little bit better than I was. I think he’s going to come along and turn out to be a brute force.”

Excellent read on Robinson from early June, don't think I've seen it posted here:

Robinson says he returned to Knoxville to get his degree from Tennessee. He needs 12 hours to graduate. He took spring and summer semesters off, but returns the classroom in the fall. In the meantime, Robinson umpires youth baseball games and works other jobs.

Getting his sociology degree is priority No. 1.

“It’s huge,” Robinson said. “That’s what I came to school for, to get my degree. I told my mom I’d get my degree, and that’s what I’m here to do, get my degree. I told my mom and dad that a long time ago. I want to get that degree and just move on.”

I wish Dobbs could throw the deep ball like you, Tony. Oh, God, do I ever. You were the best Vol QB tossing the deep strike I've ever seen and I've been watching religiously since 1956. Honest....

I was there and enjoyed every minute, Bo Jackson didn't play the 2nd half due to thigh bruise

Was there also and I'm pretty sure Bo played some in the 2nd half. I did have the binocs on Pat Dye when he was pointing his finger and demanding Bo return to the field. Bo just sat there, helmet off, and shook his head "...no...". One of the greatest Vol beat-downs ever. Still have that Sports Illustrated in my collection.

I thought he played in the 3rd quarter, but I had a lot of Whiskey by that point, so I may be misrembering.
