Tony Elliott (Clemson OC)

He definitely has the resumè and has done the stuff you’re supposed to do to get a shot at a job like Tennessee.”
A former Tigers player, who coached alongside current Tennessee interim Kevin Steele at Clemson in 2011, Elliott has exploded this coaching cycle as an extremely viable candidate around multiple jobs; Auburn had strong interest in Elliott, going so far as to seek an interview, and Elliott also had elicited interest from the Miami Dolphins and the Seattle Seahawks for those organizations’ offensive coordinator positions, per multiple reports, earlier this month.
Elliott has been Clemson’s offensive coordinator in some capacity for the past six seasons; he was the Tigers’ co-offensive coordinator from 2015-19 but ran the show by himself this past season as Clemson again advanced to the College Football Playoffs.
Elliott missed that semifinal game against Ohio State due to COVID-19 protocols, but he was the architect of a Trevor Lawrence-led Tigers’ offense that finished third nationally in scoring, 43.5 points per game, and 10th in total offense with more than 502 ypg and also won the prestigious Broyles Award in 2017 as the nation’s top assistant coach in college football

Elliott combined with Steele wouldn’t be a bad choice. Prefer kiffin or chadwell but he is an upgrade from our last 3 coaches.

They will likely go the offensive minded coach, and Tony Elliot would be a heckuva hire. Making Clemson weaker by getting their OC and RB coach would be great. He also gives us immediate recruiting juice and credibility with his playoff experience and national championship prowess. That doesn't mean that he's going to be hired or would be the first called, but I think it would be a pretty good hire, and would also give us the only minority HC in the SEC.

I'm really not disagreeing with you that he could be a good hire, but just not here, and not now. If we replace Elliot with Pruitt (ala 2017,... it turns out like this.)

They will likely go the defensive minded coach, and Bubba Pruitt would be a heckuva hire. Making Alabama weaker by getting their DC and DB coach would be great. He also gives us immediate recruiting juice and credibility with his playoff experience and national championship prowess...

I want the best coach & player motivator God ever made no matter if previously a head coach or not

Our AD didn't come from a bigtime school so I don't see the difference. Get the best man for the job.

Elliot seems legit & players would love him

Tony Elliott, there is not a better person in the world,” said a collegiate coach who’s battled against Elliott on the field and the recruiting trail. “He is top-shelf. He is just as good a person as there is around.
Might be true but can he coach and recruit through sanctions battling 3 top tier schools every year and dealing with volnation fans? I have my doubts, might be a good hire but not right timing

Key word seems legit....we need proven legit at this time, no more taking risk, football program been down for TOO long, 1 year bad enough but 10 is atrocious

I like this guy, just worry that he's not ready yet. He barely experienced as a solo OC.

Neal McCready, Ole Miss beat writer who is as dialed in as anyone in the SEC, said a name to really watch in this deal is Tony Elliot.

He said he made his mandatory calls about Kiffin and thought Kiffin was a complete non-starter. Thinks it’s just Lane being Lane.
No more so called big named assistant coaches.

Its time to hire a black head coach @ UT

Only problem with Elliot is if wins here Clemson will want him in 5 when Dabo leaves

If the only problem is that he will be winning enough in 5 years that Clemson would want him, then let's get him. But, Dabo will not leave Clemson until he is ready to retire.

I will say this, if you look at who Danny White has hired at his other schools Buffalo (football: Lance Leipold; basketball: Bobby Hurley & Nate Oates) & UCF (football: Scott Frost & Josh Heupel; basketball: Johnny Dawkins, Abrahamson-Henderson) with the exception of Leipold who was HC at Wisconsin-Whitewater & Abrahamson-Henderson-Henderson who was HC at Albany, the other 2 football coaches were OC’s prior to being hired; the basketball coaches were assistant/associate head coaches.

Elliot would not surprise me & I think would be a great hire. Unlike, Fulmer I believe Danny White knows how to do his homework and hire the right guy who can effectively do & handle the job.

Also, like Plowman said he’s made hires that weren’t “the obvious” hires, but they were strategic & thoughtful.

I trust him to get it right whoever he hires; I think all too often on here several of us latch on to a certain coach & when that is not who is hired we turn on them at the first stumble. How about we try trusting this guy actually knows what he’s doing (first AD I can comfortably say that about since Doug Dickey) & let him hire the right guy whoever that is & trust that since he has a track record of making the right hires that will still be the case here.
CHUUCH!!! (That’s church for the regular folk) simular to: AMEN.

Wasn’t Chad Morris said to be the SAME exact thing as Tony Elliot. How’s that worked out?

If this is who we get, then at least it will be the most coveted person they've hired since Kiffin, maybe since Majors. The experience thing makes me nervous in light of what we're going through now although I don't think that an experienced AD is going to be as easily hoodwinked as our last one was. Do people even know if this guy wants to move up anywhere other than Clemson? Venables has had every offer imaginable thrown at him, yet there he sits. Maybe Elliott is of the same mind.

Like others have pointed out, UT has made a huge investment in a proven AD. They know what's at stake with this hire. I just cannot fathom doing all this and spending all that money on an AD only to hire an OC like Elliott who has no head coaching experience. It's Pruitt part 2. No way they go that route. Just can't. We need a proven head coach. This is not...NOT...a job you cut your teeth on.
