They will likely go the offensive minded coach, and Tony Elliot would be a heckuva hire. Making Clemson weaker by getting their OC and RB coach would be great. He also gives us immediate recruiting juice and credibility with his playoff experience and national championship prowess. That doesn't mean that he's going to be hired or would be the first called, but I think it would be a pretty good hire, and would also give us the only minority HC in the SEC.
Might be true but can he coach and recruit through sanctions battling 3 top tier schools every year and dealing with volnation fans? I have my doubts, might be a good hire but not right timingTony Elliott, there is not a better person in the world,” said a collegiate coach who’s battled against Elliott on the field and the recruiting trail. “He is top-shelf. He is just as good a person as there is around.
Key word seems legit....we need proven legit at this time, no more taking risk, football program been down for TOO long, 1 year bad enough but 10 is atrociousI want the best coach & player motivator God ever made no matter if previously a head coach or not
Our AD didn't come from a bigtime school so I don't see the difference. Get the best man for the job.
Elliot seems legit & players would love him
No more so called big named assistant coaches.Neal McCready, Ole Miss beat writer who is as dialed in as anyone in the SEC, said a name to really watch in this deal is Tony Elliot.
He said he made his mandatory calls about Kiffin and thought Kiffin was a complete non-starter. Thinks it’s just Lane being Lane.
Its time to hire a black head coach @ UT
Only problem with Elliot is if wins here Clemson will want him in 5 when Dabo leaves
CHUUCH!!! (That’s church for the regular folk) simular to: AMEN.I will say this, if you look at who Danny White has hired at his other schools Buffalo (football: Lance Leipold; basketball: Bobby Hurley & Nate Oates) & UCF (football: Scott Frost & Josh Heupel; basketball: Johnny Dawkins, Abrahamson-Henderson) with the exception of Leipold who was HC at Wisconsin-Whitewater & Abrahamson-Henderson-Henderson who was HC at Albany, the other 2 football coaches were OC’s prior to being hired; the basketball coaches were assistant/associate head coaches.
Elliot would not surprise me & I think would be a great hire. Unlike, Fulmer I believe Danny White knows how to do his homework and hire the right guy who can effectively do & handle the job.
Also, like Plowman said he’s made hires that weren’t “the obvious” hires, but they were strategic & thoughtful.
I trust him to get it right whoever he hires; I think all too often on here several of us latch on to a certain coach & when that is not who is hired we turn on them at the first stumble. How about we try trusting this guy actually knows what he’s doing (first AD I can comfortably say that about since Doug Dickey) & let him hire the right guy whoever that is & trust that since he has a track record of making the right hires that will still be the case here.
