Tony Elliott Appears To Be a Target

I would agree with this except for the fact we currently play like schools from those conferences so...
I think with Steele on staff that’ll be a big help to Elliot as well as he has HC experience
What does that matter? We may be playing like those schools but we sure as hell aren't playing AGAINST those schools!

I think Elliot is prob a great guy.....and he will make a good head coach some day. He was “co” offensive coordinator all the way up until last year. So he’s really only had the keys to the offense for one year.....and a COVID year at that. I believe there are too many unknowns with him to bring him into an elite conference as his first head coach gig. I see him being very successful at a mid major....like possibly a Napier or chadwell. I just think you are rolling the dice on bringing him here. If he wasn’t good enough to give the UCF job to, I really don’t think you hand him the reins at this train wreck of a situation. Again....great guy, but in my humble opinion....I wouldn’t do it.
We’re not hiring him to be OC, so the Co-OC isn’t a big deal.

A great play-caller can be a good HC, but it’s low on the list of things to look for in a HC. It’s the responsibility and leadership qualities, plus years coaching, typically found in people that have reached the coordinator level as to why they’re common hires.

But you see the NFL hire ST coordinators, position coaches, etc. There’s also guys like Dabo.

They also said they want to win and Boyd said an experienced head coach. You calling Boyd a liar?
You missed the part where he told the Knoxville News Sentinel that they didn’t fire a coach for violations just to go hire another coach with a history of violations.

85% of fans want Kiffin according to a recent poll. I’d say maybe 30% or less want Elliott. Even if you can’t get Kiffin, there are plenty of other big names that most people would get behind. Freeze, Herman, Malzahn, etc..
FREEZE isn't being hired
Malzahn sux and doesn't want the job to begin with

I'd rather just let Steele be interim for a year than hire another unproven coordinator.

Put me down as, hell no for Elliot.

What the hell...why not

Two sad observations:

1. Like generals who arrive on the battlefield fully prepared to win the previous war, VFLs are fully prepared to not hire (at least three of) our previous four coaches.

2. If entitlement could be transformed into energy, Volnation would be self-sustaining and have a surplus to sell to Oak Ridge.

All I’m saying is it’s a lot for a first time head coach to take in.....if we weren’t in the situation we are in, maybe roll the dice on him. And you’re also coaching nfl caliber talent at Clemson.... you don’t have that here right now. I get what you’re saying..... he was also a walk on at Clemson when he played and became team captain, which speaks volumes to his leadership ability. He’s been coaching a while....just not a head coach. I just don’t think now is the time to hire a coordinator here.

Lane Kiffin is not Available....Ship sailed 3 years ago...Freeze and Malzahn and Herman are wash rinse repeat guys....Kiffin would easily be my choice but he is NOT Available without a huge legal battle and a chase...If we have to Chase and fight then we don't want him here...

If White wanted Freeze they could spin it and make it happen. It’s not an impossible task. “Malzahn sux” is not an actual reason at all. Fact is he cracks the top 10 on most people’s lists and Elliott likely wasn’t in most peoples top 25 before they googled him today

Malzahn is no better than what we've had. Please explain why he would be? He's a 7-8 win coach with 2 lucky wins over Saban in 7 yrs. Chancellor is not approving a hire for Hugh Freeze!

In fairness, Elliott was right behind Sark and Venables on the list of coordinators that are ready for a big time head coaching gig. You can go back and look at people's lists and he's there. His name came up and SC and Barn when they were looking. Some P5 school will hire him sooner rather than later, unless he's another Venables who wants to hang out in Clemson for the rest of his life.

Tony Elliott may really need to consider making a move with his stock being higher right now than it's ever been. He has a lot of momentum right now because of all of the offensive success Clemson has had with Lawrence at QB. When Lawrence missed the Notre Dame game earlier in the season, they weren't the same. Still played well on offense, but him missing the game was the difference. Clemson wasn't the same team.

Clemson played terribly in the Ohio State game in all facets of the game. Elliott missed that game due to Covid protocol and he can make a valid argument that his absence was the reason. Was it? It may have had a lot to do with it, but Clemson was awful that day. Awful. But, maybe his absence was the factor......

Now that Lawrence is gone, does Elliott's stock take a dip if offensive production isn't where it was with Lawrence there? Probably. So, career wise, this may be the best opportunistic time for Elliott to make the jump.

He won the hardest division in football a couple of years ago and beat the doors off of Kirby in the regular season with a less talented team for starters. Wins vs Saban count whether you like it or not. Nationally recognized name without googling is a plus. I’m not advocating specifically for anyone, just telling you who fans would get behind

Kevin Sumlin would make better sense than Elliott...HC experience has to be a requirement.

I think South Carolina missed out. He should have been hired by USCjr. He played at Clemson, coached at South Carolina St, Furman and Clemson. He's hasn't left that state in his playing nor professional career. Plus, him getting the job at USCjr would have been a major thorn in Clemson's side and helped them recruit that area.....

I assure you 85% of fans do not want Kiffin at this time. Vol Twitter is not a good representation of Tennessee fans.

I was just referring to lists of average fans. I’d say the percentage of fans who had no clue who he was is a big number. He might be a great coach. I just think our situation at UT is unique in that our fans are on the verge of meltdown and a bargain bin hire does not seem to fit the situation we are in, especially when we just broke the bank to get a top AD
