Tony B. On why Tennessee won't be active in transfer portal

The real reason is probably more to do with waiting until after spring camps and seeing our more definitive needs and picking from the available transfers who will bail from schools then. Imposing scholarship reductions, on the scale of 10+ would be quite large compared to others who have dealt with penalties, self or NCAA imposed. Ultimately the next recruiting class will be the most important one, and should show marked improvement with the full wooing cycle and the hopefully 2 years of program success.

You might be right on two counts. We may be holding off to after our spring ball to both clarify our biggest needs and wait to see how many more guys we have jump in the portal so we can pick up some from other places. Hopefully we will primarily lose those who are not factoring in and looking for playing time elsewhere and we can target some really talented guys who are just in a place with lots of talent and are down the depth chart or maybe some over achievers at schools down the food chain. But.... we are not going load up before the needed number depart.

The dumbest part of this supposed restriction is the portal transfer numbers are IN ADDITION to regular scholarships. Any players lost last fall, up to seven, can be replaced and NOT count against the 85 limit, so why in the hell would UT NOT find transfers to replace those that already left! If this is true then they are truly a bunch of spineless clowns!

Man I have tried to be an optimist this whole time but if true our defense is going to be horrible. A one win improvement may be the best we can hope for and that may be a tad bit optimistic even with our awesome offense coming back. Could be like that one year with Bray. Score 42 and give up 49.

Just have to have faith they can coach the underclassmen up.

So the NCAA is on its deathbed and we're self-imposing punishment as though it were thirty years ago. Brilliant, UT admin, brilliant as always. Your capacity for clownship is unparalleled.

This is exactly what I’m thinking. Why wouldn’t we fight this thing kicking and screaming amd drag it in for several years? That would take us beyond a time at which ta&m is allegedly paying recruits 1M plus per year. How could the ncaa look back and want to do too much to Ut when our kids were only paid a fraction of that amount and every single person involved is long gone. Seems incredibly severe if we’re accepting a 10 scholarship reduction. Ridiculous

I’m surprised there weren’t a few more encouraged to move on, honestly

even though they have encouraged players to move on they will not force anyone out. There are some that in order to transfer out of Tennessee they have to have credits from this semester in order to enroll elsewhere. So there are X players going to transfer after the semester. We just don't know who. In order to get the 7 signees, not early enrollees, into school in the summer 7 will need to leave. Its a very hard balancing act to manage the roster for them. Transferring is almost always voluntary if the players have been good citizens and done what they are supposed to.

We keep asking those questions because we do not know what type violations were committed. The penalties that Tennessee is taking might be to light when the NCAA completes looking at it. We just don't know. Once we are able to see the report and findings, we would be in better position to question the penalties.

the worse thing would be to allow Heupel to spend 2 years building the program and then have it yanked out from under him due to NCAA sanctions in 2024 or 2025.. perhaps just as they were competitive for the East.

the administration has to weigh all of that knowing what they know and its what we don't know

“Tennessee Is Self Mandating Scholarship Reductions … How they’ve gotten there is by aging out those that have left and encouraging others to hit the portal. I hear Tennessee has hovered around a number in the low 70’s dating back to the beginning of each semester. The first day of classes Tennessee must be at their desired scholarship number. I hear the number is somewhere between 72-74 which will leave Tennessee locked out of the transfer market as they’re already at their number as you read this.
“The only way Tennessee could add a player like Trelon Smith is to either cut an existing player from their roster and thus send someone into the portal or encourage an early enrollee freshman to not enroll until May.”

The whole super senior thing has made everything really great to keep up with. I’m sure it’s a huge challenge for the coaches everywhere

I believe the best time to work on the players in the portAl is after Spring practice when our dire needs can be best identified and the roster number- will be back up to 85 in the Fall after the Summer Semester ends. I also believe that the NCAA will reduced and change the .time when players can enter the portal and when the portal will be closed. we will be OK and we will be able to recruit a very good class next Fall and Winter. I just don’ understNd why so many people are having a hussy over what is happening . Remember, we did fire at least 10 people because of cheating and I believe we are pretty lucky to be able to do what we are and will be doing. The future is the brightest it has been in 15 years and so many people are losing their mind instead of looking toward the future. It will be O K.

Can I ask where you have gotten that information please? I've been trying for the last 2 weeks to get someone to confirm that is the case. so far everyone I've checked with has said they don't know.

So the best time to work on them is after many have signed elsewhere?

We appear to not be competitive in the portal vs. the Ohio States, Alabama's, Oklahoma's and Texas' of the worlds.

I am sure they will probably cite a lack of institutional control. And that might be wise, because many of those overseeing the program should be institutionalized.

This may come as a shock to you but one or two other people have opined that the NCAA is on its way out. But once again your capacity for fatuous nonsense is endless. Keep posting drivel - you’re the champ at it.

Oh wow one or two other people? Well that settles it right? The NCAA is completely done in a couple of years. Yes that’s the ticket. Your stupidity knows no bounds. Your constant negativity and idiocy on matters like this show such a lack of common sense is baffling. You are nothing more than a joke. Keep it up.
