Let's see if he can convince AJ & Tiny to come back. If so, pay the man!

Pay Thig...let AJ and Tiny go or stay.. We are on our way up regardless. Just need to keep recruiting. We need real talent to get where we want to be, regardless. Tiny and AJ would be doing themselves a big favor if they stay and improve there draft stock. Hope they stay, but if they leave....oh well

So he recruited all these guys by himself, Butch and others had nothing to do with it??

Don't Taze Me, just asking, for all I know he did.

Can't give Thig enough credit. The impact he's had on this recruiting class is astounding. I heard Barton Simmons talking about him on the radio yesterday. I thought he said Thig played a major role in 18 of Tennessee's commits. Whatever the exact number, I don't recall a coach ever having this much and widespread of an impact.

I am all for Thig getting a good raise. All I want I know is where do we get the money? UT is not exactly swimming in money right now.

Boosters... plus UT is not hurting THAT much. Seriously, we are on the rise and show promise of getting back to Relevance. That means looser Booster wallets.

Solid recruiters are worth their weight in gold....... If Thigpen should leave the staff, I would like to see CBJ give Dale Jones a call and see if he would be interested in coming back to UT.

Butch and Azzanni no doubt are great recruiters as well, but connections with "breeding ground" high school coaches and SEC relationships are maybe new to them. Thig recruited Cam Newton and a good portion of Auburns current team.
A great SEC recruiter is invaluable to success in getting SEC caliber talent to UT. If Thigpen left and CBJ brought in a buddy from the Big East......well, enter Dooley recruiting results.

If any of the coaches need a Raise, Its Tommy. I worry that he may leave to go back to Auburn. I started a similar thread several weeks ago..a great many of the responses where " Give him a raise once we start winning"...typical. He's the mad scientist with recruiting. I know Butch and Azzani are awesome recruiters, but Tommy is the one with serious SEC connections. Hopefully, we wont loose him over a frugal AD, cause I bet he would love to be back with Malzaun. It all starts with recruiting. And we need to keep being in the top 5. Go Vols!

Reality is that Malzaun choose not to retain him so why would he be hot to return to Auburn?

What part of Malzaun chose not to retain Thig do you not understand?

Ellis Johnson, defensive coordinator: $800,000
Rhett Lashlee, offensive coordinator: $350,000
Rodney Garner, associate head coach/recruiting coordinator/defensive line: $500,000
Dameyune Craig, co-offensive coordinator/wide receivers: $350,000
Charlie Harbison, co-defensive coordinator/safeties: $425,000
Melvin Smith, cornerbacks: $300,000
J.B. Grimes, offensive line: $270,000
Tim Horton, running backs: $250,000
Scott Fountain, special teams coordinator/tight ends: $250,000

It would be difficult to give Thig much more money with the above pay structure.

Ellis Johnson is LB coach.

That's a big part in why Thig wouldn't be retained.

Because Auburn didn't need an LB coach.

Not to mention Malzahn simply wanted to clean house which is perfectly understandable.

One of the most underrated movies out there, and also one of my favorites.

No doubt! its a staple. Crazy as it sounds, the USCe game this year reminded me of the movie.-----Spurrier has to burn timeouts because CBJ's facecards changed(Dline formation). great stuff...poker and Vols winning at it.
