Tom Herman thread [merged]

My only concern with Herman is the fact that some of his own players were telling recruits not to come to Texas. We don't need a situation where the players don't trust the coaches. The same thing was happening the last two seasons under Butch. For all of Pruitt's faults, he's honest with his players and backs them up. They don't quit on him and actively recruit FOR him. If we're looking at hiring a new coach, we need someone that has that quality in addition to being much better at managing a football program. I think Napier could be that guy.
The team quit on Pruitt several times this year with the notable example the Kentucky game.

My biggest concern is that he knew about a wife beater and did nothing about it.

Why did they fire Rick Barnes?
Because the program had become stale. Texas hadn’t been past the second round of the NCAA tournament in seven years. They had clearly slipped down the pecking order in the B12 and had become an afterthought on the national scene. Them firing him doesn’t mean that they thought he was a bad coach. Sometimes a change is good for both parties involved.

Very fair. So argument supports that just because a coach that was let go by one program does not mean they are a bad option for another.

They were still playing hard at the end of every game, including the Kentucky game. The defense just got worn out. If you think what you saw was a team quitting, then you must not have watched the back half of Butch's last season. Even Hubbs and crew have commented on the team still playing hard at the end of blowouts and not quitting on Pruitt.

They quit mentally in the Kentucky game(2nd half). Many others thought the same thing.

Yeah, I remember. I thought that had happened more recently then before Herman was at Texas.
It came out after he was named head coach, but happened back in his assistant days at Ohio State. Shelly definitely knew. Hard to believe nobody else did. Especially considering some of the comments Urban made to the media. Because she didn’t press charges they let it go. The whole thing stinks. The specter of it is just bothersome to me

If you’re referencing Herman? He and his wife were a support system for Courtney...even paying for her to continue her nursing courses to get her back on her feet. If you’re referencing Urban, nm.

You’re way off on this one. This was the origin of the “Cool, Hook Em” tweet in response to Zach Smith being furious that they were helping his ex.

I certainly believe Meyer knew but I bet he kept it close to the vest and Herman may not of known. I’ll give him the benefit of the doubt anyway if he comes here.

Friday- Houston plays Memphis. Herman is asked by his players if he was taking LSU job.
Herman- “Nope. Don’t believe the rumors.”

Friday- Texas loses to TCU. Strong fired.
Sat, 4am- Herman finalizes deal with Texas

When asked if he had ever been contacted by LSU, he refused to answer.

Herman quote- “I never lied to recruits, players or administration.”

The dude is a lier. Even got called out by other schools, especially A&M for lying on the recruiting trail while at Texas.

Again, he’s not an upgrade. Campbell definitely. Herman? I’ll pass.

I will take. You are crazy if you don’t believe these coaches play games. Herman is definitely an upgrade from most on our list.

He basically lied to his players face about the job at Texas. At the time, the rumor was LSU was going to hire him. He had every intention of going to Texas and had been talking to Texas the entire time.

So you would have not taken Saban who told everyone that he would not be the coach at Alabama either?

They didn’t ask about Texas. And if Strong had beat Kansas the job wouldn’t have been available. Now if he had THEN taken the LSU job, your liar liar theory would have been factual. But it isn’t.
