Deep down, Texas doesn’t think it should be great because they were good at some previous point. They think they should be great because they are the flagship school in a very large state that worships football and is the #1/#2 revenue school in the country. Not all that dissimilar from A&M, which is also a school that overstates its (lack of) historical success, though nowhere near what Texas does. Texas is a far less historically successful program than their big rival Oklahoma, despite Oklahoma having to raid Texas for recruiting and bringing in less money. From what point? Mack Brown’s time towards the end was pathetic...Strong’s even more so. People either weren’t alive or forget the McWilliams/Mackovic eras.
Great post and think you are correct in your assessments.Deep down, Texas doesn’t think it should be great because they were good at some previous point. Overall though, the school that overrates their history the most combined with the most out of whack expectations about their future prospects is Michigan.
