To Protect and to Serve...

You did by finding it worthy of being shared. Apparently cops can't bring lawsuits in your world.

I've shared when cops do right, too. So have others. I guess we shouldn't, because a cop helping a kid fix his bike makes him no different from others.

Get you panties unwadded.

They had a 911 call that he had an AK47 and was threatening to shoot people....In this case, they most certainly had the right to act like they did and then determined he was innocent and let him go. The cop shouldn't have said he was going to shoot him in the face but every thing else seemed like what they were trained to do.

Then the training needs to change. I'm not willing to sacrifice my safety for that of law enforcement. I'm not saying they have no right to feel safe, but not at the expense of completely disregarding mine and yours.

Maybe start requiring more than an anonymous phone call to take someone's freedom and threatening to kill them while pointing a gun in their face.

So once again.....u get a call saying there is a guy with a AK47 threatening to kill people.....What do u think the change needs to be?

Dude... I had nothing to do with creating this problem. Why should the onus be on me to come up with a solution?

Except it wasn't an AK-47, so you have some dumbass civilian overreacting and not knowing the full situation and cops taking his word as gospel. If this happened at a house and cops bust in you could have anther Detroit situation. Walter Fisher potentially thwarted others vehicles from being broken into/stolen, including the uninformed callers.

Yes, he did but u have to treat the situation seriously.....The facts are that they secured Mr. Fisher without incident......investigated and let him go on his way....Most of us would have called the police in the same manner.

There is a difference between:

- Responding to a call of someone possibly heavily armed (for civilians, AKs are pretty heavy) and possibly making threats. Survey the scene and ascertain danger. Respond appropriately from there while looking to calm the situation

and

- Getting out of your car with your weapon drawn and being prepared to shoot someone who was reported to be armed (but is not current brandishing a weapon) in the face.

Bystanders and the population in general are incredibly ignorant about firearms. That .30-06 that you have unarmed and you're legally allowed to open carry? That's now an RPG. You say "Good Day" and all of the suddent you just said "GO DIE".

See how reliable taking bystander information can be? If I was a cop, I believe I would take any details with an entire shaker of salt. But then again, I'm not a cop. So I'm not jaded by criminal elements to the point where I see everyone as a threat.

The situation did get handled correctly, but the officers first reaction to go into a situation with his firearm drawn and screaming at people is an indictment about why the situation between the public and the police in general is so bad.

Again, Officers should look to calm situations down and only draw firearms as a last (read: not first) resort. Too many Officers are too ready, willing and able to draw their firearms.

The guy is 6'3 280 pounds and the reports said that he had an AK47 so it is logical to assume that he may have other weapons also. The cop shouldn't have used the language that he did but they should most certainly go in with their guns drawn. Just look at NYC....how long did it take for that cop to be shot in the head? Luckily in this instance, Walter Fisher is a good man and the situation was a misunderstanding.

Sorry but I guess we have different definitions of "without incident". Call me extreme but to me forcing a man out of his vehicle and into the ground, shoving a firearm in his face, and telling him that you're going to kill him is definitely an incident.

You do that to somebody, then you better be damn sure it's justified. If you haven't assured it is, then you leave them the hell alone. What's hard to understand about that?

Maybe Fisher wasn't wearing his old jersey.

Wow. If nothing else this story should convince anybody not to cooperate. Never talk and to shoo the police away immediately in the absence of a warrant.

Also, don't date dumb *****es.

First rule of talking to the police is never talk to the police.

What if it wasn't Walter Fisher and a guy with an AK47 threatening to kill people? You just act like you didn't receive the call?

I'll keep my opinion to myself on this matter but have to ask, does the style of the weapon matter? I keep seeing you throw out AK-47 and do not understand why that is so important.

Okay... Keep a close eye on him and in the mean time send someone to talk to the "witness". It probably would've taken 10 seconds to realize the guy had no clue wtf he was talking about. At that point you realize there is no threat and everybody goes home happy.

Now I realize that takes a little more work and they don't get to use their gun but sorry...
