The guy deserves to be punished for this. However it's funny that the raise baiters aren't up in arms about it. Is it because EVERYONE actually sees that the officer was at fault?

I think the total idiocy of the officer caught on tape leaves nothing to argue about. TBH, this has to be one of the dumbest humans I've ever seen.

That's a really good question. You'd think this would be the opportunity they've been waiting for. Maybe since the guy was fired and charged they figure there's little else they can do.

Just got back from cousin's funeral, and if you haven't seen a cop funeral, it's pretty cool. It's a real brotherhood, and rubbing shoulders with everyone confirmed what I believe...most cops are really good guys. We just have to restructure the nature of police work so that we get the most out of good cops, and and limit the potential for abuse among the few bad cops.

By the way, this is Albuquerque area police, and like I said, they all seemed like great people. The interesting contrast is that this hit the newswire the day of the funeral:

And, the easy solution to almost every cop-related issue is that we require cops to carry recording devices everywhere.

I think if we all push for that and get it, we'd have a lot less to argue about.

Quite possibly could. I think (actually Im very sure) youd find a lot fewer "witnessed" transgressions.

This cop is a piece of filth. Pull someone over, make up some bullshat excuse later, use their baby as a tool for blackmail, calls the passenger by a warranted criminal's name as some dumbass attempt at mind games, use a search dog as a threat (the tone in his voice suggested that the search dog was a punishment rather than a standard procedure). The passenger certainly didn't do himself any favors by yelling and not rolling his window down. But i certainly understand his conundrum and why he would be so defensive and aggravated. Get cops off traffic detail. This is asinine.

Maybe the guy really did look like the man with warrants. But clearly they were abusing their power when they made the drug dog give a false alert. Basically it's game over when they bring one out and make it perform like that, because you either have to cooperate or go to jail at that point.

Imagine that! A false alert. Using the dog is just a charade any more. Don't insult our intelligence with that act. If you want to illegally search our vehicles, just do it without blaming it on a hapless dog that just wants treats and belly rubs.

K-9 officers "trigger" their dogs all the time. If they want to search, they'll manufacture probable cause. After the police ran the drivers' license and found nothing, they had no legal justification to detain them any longer.

These bogus charges will be dropped and they'll get sued. A passenger does not have to ID themselves to the police, but they routinely throw out the catch-all "obstruction" charge when he/she fails to do so.

Not sure you want to use the FBI as a standard for which to decide which weapon to carry. I know local LE does, but the average FBI agent averages about 1 arrest a year and typically rely on local LE to make arrests. The FBI is good for studies and statistics, I'll give them that, but real world stuff just isnt in their wheel house.
