To Protect and to Serve II

Not without other factors. In the past I only pulled someone over for very suspicious activity (I.e. swerving, etc) or obvious traffic or criminal violations
Yep, I'm sure you observed someone crossing the centerline before you pulled them over. I heard that a couple of times when I got pulled over for no reason.

I’ve never once in my previous 20 plus years of law enforcement pulled someone over for “no reason”. Either they committed an obvious traffic violation or I knew they were involved in some criminal activity. Just because one random officer in some city does something questionable doesn’t mean every officer does it

Sir, the point of this entire thread is that it is far more than one or two random cops sprinkled here and there.

And again I’ve seen hundreds and hundreds of officers in different agencies during my time and 99% were just fine and the 1% is usually weeded out. Law enforcement is no different than any other profession, there are some idiot doctors, lawyers, politicians, bankers, bartenders, teachers, etc

You want to really see an example of actual law enforcement misconduct, unconstitutional behavior, brutality, watch the Netflix series Waco about the Branch Davidian's and Ruby Ridge. Now THAT is pure of what you are looking for

They're much different from doctors and bankers. They have power. They're unionized.

You say 99% and the 1% is weeded out, but how do you explain the world around you with that made up data? There is so much police corruption, waste, ineptitude, etc. I know so many people, including myself, who have been harassed by the police for no good reason. This wouldn't be possible if it were < 1%

This is how fkn stupid the cop is who harassed me...he saw somebody he wanted to pull over and instead of just pulling up behind them and turning the lights on, he tried to pull this weird, completely unnecessary backroad maneuver where he could surprise them from the side and he sped too much, went off the dirt road, rolled, and died. Only cop in my town to ever die "in the line of duty".

Got a question. Is going 65 mph in a 70mph speed zone probable cause for a traffic stop?

State v. Hannah, 259 SW 3d 716 - Tenn: Supreme Court 2008 - Google Scholar

“We begin our analysis by examining the plain language of the statute, which mandates that "[n]o person shall drive a motor vehicle at such a slow speed as to impede the normal and reasonable movement of traffic, except when reduced speed is necessary for safe operation or in compliance with law." Tenn.Code Ann. § 55-8-154(a).

...the more difficult question arises: when does a slow-moving automobile "impede" traffic? While a driver does not have to be stopped in the roadway or cause other automobiles to stop, we believe that a slow driver does not violate the statute by merely causing minor inconvenience to other motorists.

...

Employing similar reasoning, other states have concluded that when a driver's slow speed does not affect other motorists then the driver is not impeding traffic...

We conclude, therefore, that a driver of a slow-moving automobile impedes traffic when his or her reduced speed interrupts the "normal and reasonable movement of traffic" by blocking or backing up traffic, unless the "reduced speed is necessary for safe operation or in compliance with the law." Furthermore, while not an exhaustive list, we believe that when a trial court reviews whether a slow driver impeded traffic it should consider how slow the driver's automobile was *723 traveling, the posted maximum speed limit, the posted minimum speed limit, if any, the effect on traffic, the duration of the effect on traffic, and the normal and reasonable flow of traffic in that area.[5]Also, the trial court should consider whether other traffic could safely pass the slow-moving automobile in the right lane as provided in Tennessee Code Annotated section 55-8-118 (2004).[6]

(This post is not and should not be relied upon as legal advice. As always, hire a lawyer.)

Not every officer is unionized and even then, to suggest that doctors or bankers don’t have power over others is ludicrous.
And police corruption is a lot different issue than brutality or “waste” as you mentioned. If you know a lot of people “harassed” by the police unjustly, that usually would say more about who you hang with and where you live. Some people consider it “unfair” and “harassment” to get a speeding ticket or stopped at a DUI checkpoint. And you seem to reference one officer who “harassed” you by trying to pull you over and died trying to pull someone else over? Do you have a little more detail to what he actually did wrong?

To suggest doctors have power anywhere on the level of the guys that can shoot your dog or you and often go without punishment is ludicrous.

You're blaming the victims with no knowledge of any of the incidents. This is exactly why people hate cops. You're automatically taking your corrupt brothers' side as if you've never seen police misconduct. I bet you're a great cop.

Try this one. I'm at my GF's house party in college. Cops show up and tell everybody to leave. The boyfriends are staying to help clean up. One of us specifically gets told to leave. He starts to explain himself politely and without warning an officer slammed him and arrested him, ****ing up his knee. Wanna hear more?

My Dad's best friend is a Phd economist. Spent a night in jail because a cop thought he was drunk driving. He has neurological issues, which he explained several times. He blew clean but is not capable of looking normal during a field sobriety test. They didn't give a ****.

That's the kind of riff raff i associate with. I'll take my guys over yours.

Me and another guy got detained by cops for like an hour because my buddy brought an orange toy gun into a school dance. I get it, but keep in mind this is before Columbine. We didn't know better and all we needed was a short talk, but again, it was unnecessarily physical and they said the stupidest **** to scare us, like that we were gonna get charged with attempted murder

One of my female, salt of the earth Sunday school teachers who does not drink got harassed in another fake drunk driving stop.

My buddy blew just below the legal limit and cops whisked him into the back of their unit and drove over 100 mph back to the station to get him a blood test ASAP before his BAC fell anymore. He passed.

I was profiled multiple times in my college days. I'd get pulled over just so the cop could probe me for suspicion of anything.

Doctors can hold people against their will if they choose. I see it everyday. That’s pretty powerful. I’ve never shot a dog and not seen anyone ever do it either within the departments i worked for.

im blaming the victim on the bus issue because he broke the law and was clearly in the wrong and acted like an a**. If I see where an officer does something wrong or over the top, I will call them out on it and have done so in this thread.

Did your friend file an actual complaint? I bet not. And wonder why the police were called there?

Sounds like he should be able to have won in court then. Not all officers have the same training and capabilities. And that’s what BAC is for
