To Protect and to Serve II

Why are both sides arguing like there's only one kind of cop?
There human beings, by nature half are going to be decent guys and the other half are going to be azzholes.

It's just a much bigger concern because they're azzholes with guns.

I have a couple of family members in LE and their good guys. However, my first experience was when I got my first apartment. Had to call because of a fight outside with weapons. They showed up, did their job, come inside to speak with me.
It was at that point they decided I owned some "suspiciously nice electronics" loaded the nicest in the trunk of the second car, told me to call Monday after they ran the numbers. And you guessed it, "we have no record of any electronics being confiscated"

Not all cops are out of control and no way in hell that all cops are heroes.
We need better training and the willingness to clean house instead of protect those that abuse.

Stop right there. We obviously know there are good cops and there are bad cops. The problem is that there are far too many of the bad ones.

And most of those bad ones don't ever see justice. It's not about hating cops, it's about holding LEO to higher standards because the depth of their responsibilities is trivialized when they are not held accountable for their mistakes/incompetence.

What accusation?

Someone needs to change their tampon; especially considering he made no accusation. You missed his point entirely.

I've had two friends shot in the line of duty, multiple shot at, and one of the best friends I'll ever have grab the gun out of a man's hand, something that to this day he can't explain how he reacted so fast all in the line of duty.

So, yeah, when I see what we do deminished to a report, yeah, I get pissed.

Re this Minneapolis shooting, there are no details at all. We have no idea why the police officer fired his weapon. Why are people just assuming that it was bad?

Maybe it was, maybe it wasn't. We have no information at all to go on.

My point was that most muggings in progress are not going to be stopped by the police. How many have you stopped this year?

Why did you choose to freak out on me when Hog made the exact same point? Don't be so sensitive.

I don't hate cops, I just understand reality. Cops arrive after the fact, seldom during.

And I've never needed a cop, so....

Not talking about you personally. There are many on here that have a hard on for Cops. While you may have not needed a cop, many have. Whether it was because they were the first to arrive on the scene of an accident and gave life saving cpr or pulled them from a burning car, cops for the most part are great people. Are there bad ones? Sure, but the good cops outnumber the bad enormously. There are instances that are listed here where I agree the Cops have went too far, the last one being the ambulance incident. I would like to punch that Cop in the face myself. I never defend those actions. My problem is the blanket hate that some of these folks have for LEO. Take this women that was shot in Minnesota. I don't think this Cop intentionally shot the women. I think it was a case of mistaken identity. I think it is tragic and I would be willing to bet the cop is torn up and will probably never be the same. You have to look at motives when something like this happens but many on here are all to quick to condemn the COPS without knowing the facts.

I didn't see his comment, I saw yours, but my comment is directed at you and anyone else who diminishes what we do down to an incident report.

And since you asked in such a nice way...

I've been to a few robberies in progress this year, I rolled up on a crowd of about 20 people about to brawl in a local trailer park and, I'd like to think, prevented more than a few assaults from occurring, been to a few shootings, ran down a few guys for various charges, was first on scene of a shots fired/hostage/kidnapping/possible homicide call, been in a few fights, been in two situations where, if one thing went a different way, I might have taken a life, sent two child rapists to jail, and soon to be (hopefully) prison, etc, etc. etc.

Because an unarmed yoga teacher who called and was talking to the police is dead?

That's all you know? Do you know if it was dark where they encountered her, whether she was medicated or intoxicated, whether she had any mental illness, whether she had anything in her hands, whether she disobeyed any commands, what was reported to the officers by dispatch?

No. You don't. And all those things may show that the shooting was unjustified. You don't know yet.

I hate to admit this but I've liked several of your post today. I need to log off. :)

Per the news report I read she was unarmed, talking to officers who had arrived and were still in their vehicle. What scenario is there, whether she was intoxicated or not, that would justify deadly force?

I supposed she could have been reaching into their car trying to strangle an officer, but that seems highly unlikely.
