after only one game. Here’s some statistics for you to consider:
Tee Martin’s first start versus Syracuse in 1998
9/26 for 143 yards
Peyton Manning’s first start versus Washington State
7-14 for 79 yards.
At 1:29:05 in the video below, you can see Manning overthrow a deep pass, which is the same sin you are already giving up on Joe Milton III over.
I say all this not to suggest that Milton is the next Tee Martin or Peyton Manning but instead merely to suggest that the overreaction to a couple of overthrows by some in our fan base is a bit premature.
Calling people "Milton haters" just because they pointed out his poor play against a terrible BG team is quite a leap. This team could definitely win 8 games this season with solid QB play, so it's frustrating to see Milton play poorly in what should have been a stat padding game. The bright spot was his play in the first quarter before he got locked in on trying to hit a deep shot, so I'm optimistic that Heupel can get him to play smarter for all four quarters against Pitt. I don't hate Milton and would love to see him play great, but we've all seen a physically talented QB struggle on the field game after game without any clear improvement and don't want to see that again. If Milton plays the same way against Pitt, then there's little doubt that it will be a loss. He's got to take a big step forward and there's no hate involved saying that.
He spent 2 seasons practicing in one offensive scheme. With COVID keeping Michigan from Spring Camp he had to learn a whole new offense with Fall Camp on the fly….sound familiar? He played part of the season last year with a thumb injury on his passing hand before getting benched.Milton has been playing for years in college. Even with electroshock therapy his bad habits are not going to change.
Still, I hope he leads us to a victory.
Go VOLS!!!

If I had another son who plays football, I would be extremely pleased to have him also commit to Tennessee. Your statement seems a bit far fetched if you are really a Tennessee fanand this is why people it is hard to commit to tennessee I love tennessee football but if I had a son I wouldn't dare let him commit to tennessee right now with the way some of you react it's crazy bad mouthing young kids the way all do shame on ya'll. You don't think they don't get on here and looks at this stuff or know someone who does and tells them this crap. Look at the OTHER MESSAGE BOARDS what they are saying look at pitts there saying it's going to be a good say, we got a good team it's mostly all good things and all we got is neg crap to say we have the best and worst fan base in the country!

Pretty obvious to me that Milton is a poor quarterback. His throws are too hard, inaccurate, and with no arch on the ball. I would try him at tight end.
All the more reason to start Harrison Bailey! Here's the simple math for the Joe Milton haters:
(a) Josh Heupel probably knows QBs, and how to pick the best of the options available, only like 10,000 times better than you (or me).
(b) Since he does, his pick is undoubtedly our beloved Vols' best chance at success.
(c) That doesn't imply Joe Milton is flawless. It doesn't imply he is Peytonesque. It only says he's our best shot.
(d) He's a college player wearing orange and white. We should support all players who wear orange and white. Even if we feel the need to criticize elements of their game, we still ought to be supporting them as OUR lads.
(e) Because we're all Vols fans. Right? Right? (I know you trolls are being really quiet about that one, shame on you).
(f) So we all want to win, Josh Heupel and all our players included, and Joe Milton gives us the best shot at that, based on the expert judgment of a national-title winning QB and now head coach.
(g) So no matter what happens next, we can only go into it hoping for the best, and supporting our lads.
It is no more complicated than that.
Do you have the right to bitch and moan and whine? Sure. You have the right. You look really stupid and childish doing it, given all the above, but you have the right.
Are you gonna get credit for having "called it" if we lose? No. Everyone is still gonna think you're a miserable sack of goat excrement, just for being negative about our lads.
So the logical approach, the most viable approach, is to support our coaching staff, support our lads (all of them), and hope for the best.
Try that.
Go Vols!
It was Tee Martin’s 3rd year when he started against Syracuse. Granted, Milton did have a few starts at Michigan, but maybe he was coached up well there. I think all of the hand wringing is a bit premature.
More excuses. The opponent was Bowling Green!! Shoulda scored 60 as did Auburn vs Akron. (Also a New Coaching Staff) Get back with us after Pitt.
