Sounds like Pruitt is basically telling recruits that we're not going to be too hot this year. I think that's the right way to handle it. Should tell Swanson and other folks that we're not going to be as good as they think we will be IMO.

Under promise/over deliver but yeah he would be dumb to tell people they will set world on fire yr 1

All he said was this was going to be our worst record while he's here. I have a feeling his expectations are still much higher than yours. And that he would consider 8 or 9 wins this year not too hot, whereas you would think that's impossible. XV-Nulla

8 or 9 wins with this team, and given all the other circumstances, would be a mini miracle IMO. This is very likely not an 8 or 9 win football team.

1 win is higher than his expectations

Not to derail the Wilhoite thread, but 8-9 wins (especially 9) ought to have Pruitt in the conversation of COY. This team won 0 conference games last year. And lost its top offensive player, best DB, and several other key contributors.

so, given what has come out from vegas on o/u for the season, and what many prognosticators think about this roster, in year one of a new staff (regardless of how high in esteem they may hold them), conventional wisdom says we lose to everyone we're supposed to...bama, auburn and GA, and at least 3 of the toss up games...FL, WVU, USCe, KY, MO, Vandy and we'll win the 3 cup cakes.

i don't think you can put 9-3 cause it most likely means you still lost to who you were supposed to and won all the toss ups.

8-4 basically says the same thing. both a lot better than expected, but COY worthy?

i don't think you can talk COY w/out 8+ wins and a win from one of those 3 we're not supposed to win.

i think he'd get a lot of atta boys and high accolades for a job really well done with 8+. i think 7 does that.

but COY? would have to do something not expected imo.

I was really aiming at the 9-win mark with that comment, but if Pruitt takes a 4-8 team with 0 conference wins and makes them a 9-3 team, then I think he would definitely be in the conversation. Being in the conversation doesn't mean he wins it, necessarily.

fair.

Well the coaching staff doesn’t. Guess your assessment on where the talent is in the South was wrong. Kids are good players but not fits for what Pruitt wants to do

Guess you should stop talking out your butt.

TN has offered at least 12 prospects in-state for 2019

LSU wanted him for a reason.

WRs looked pretty decent yesterday. We get Jennings back and we should have a pretty solid WR corps this year.

Needs seasoning as a recruiter imo, otherwise best teacher at the position since Baggett.

I agree. I was impressed with the offense overall. Not saying they are going to be first round draft picks and hall of famers but you could see the improvement. That is encouraging.

The offense was definitely encouraging. Once we get Woods-Anderson on campus, JJ back, the two new RBs, and (hopefully) everybody back healthy, we might be good enough to sneak up on some people offensively this year.

I don’t expect us to consistently be great on offense by any means, but I could see us having a game or two where things come together for us and we give someone headaches.
