'19 TN /WR Lance Wilhoite

I don't see many TN kids in the class until Pruitt is more comfortable with the state. He's comfortable with ga and al hence more offers in those states. Jmo

I’ll be interested to see what these instate guys final ranking are compared to their initial rankings.

Grimes?

Man we need more than 3 guys form in-state.

There is about 12 nationally rank3d prospects from TN.

And more with very good upside.

Id like to see us sign about 10.

Well the coaching staff doesn’t. Guess your assessment on where the talent is in the South was wrong. Kids are good players but not fits for what Pruitt wants to do

Pruitt wants elite talent to compete with Bama and UGa's elite talent. 4 stars 89-93 rating are a dime a dozen. We can grab those up as we get close to NSD. We do it every year; see Dobbs, Palmer, Byrd, and McBride. What he's trying to get his hands on are the upper tier players like Gilbert '20, Crouch '19, Steele '19, and Wright '19 who are all program changers. He's a winner and has won every where he's been. He knows what kind of talent it takes to win at a high level, and he's after that kind of talent.

Well it’s about developing those upper tier players. For the past few years, UT was where five stars went to die

Can't you see the development going on now at every practice with this staff? They are getting coached up, made to redo the reps when they mess up, reps getting critiqued. That's development, not music blaring and faux accountability.

Yeah that’s my point. But your previous statement makes it sound like we weren’t Getting top tier players before when Butch was here.

"I like Tennessee," Wilhoite said. "They are back at the top of my list right now with Ohio State, Oregon and Arkansas. When I got there on Friday, I sat down and ate dinner coach (David) Johnson and coach (Terry) Fair and my cousin P.A. (Patrick Abernathy). The next day, they showed me love and how they would use me in the offense."

"It's a factor," Wilhoite said. "I'm looking for early playing time and I see an opportunity up there. Also, I want to go somewhere we aren't the top team right now, but have enough talent to to be the top team in the nation and start winning. I know that's where Tennessee is at with coach Pruitt. When I sat down with him, he promised me the worst record they will have while he is up there is this season. When a head coach is confident in winning and confident in his players, I think that is what I'm trying to find. I think that is what he brought to Tennessee which wasn't there before. "I know we have good receivers like Alontae (Taylor) and if I come in then I think I can bring other receivers up there to help out."

"Before they started the scrimmage that night, I sat down in his office and he showed me the type of plays he used at USC. He was talking about how he will use me. When we went to the scrimmage, I saw that he does like to get vertical. He threw Marquez multiple deep balls. It wasn't all short passes. There were some short and some medium passes and some deep passes. They like to get their receivers the ball. They are a run heavy team too because that's the way the pass will get open through the run. I know the ball is going to come to me during the game regardless."

The time he got to spend with Johnson was invaluable. He got to watch how he teaches in the meeting room, see how he coaches on the field and see how he interacts with his receiver room. "He was super real," Wilhoite said. "I know a lot of coaches. My goal is to get to the NFL and he was talking to me about that being my goal and he broke it down for that to happen. I know he has helped develop receivers and gets them to the league. I know his track record and he is sending two right now including Anthony Miller from Memphis. The proof is in the pudding with him and I like how he is authentic and chop it up and I can see he cares for me."

Sounds like we are a great fit for what he wants

I said it earlier in this thread, but Wilhoite strikes me as a kid who deep down, always probably preferred Tennessee, but you can tell in his comments that he didn't care for the former staff. I get the sense that he is just looking for a reason to come, and I think he may have found that reason on his visit last week. I won't be surprised if he shows up out of the blue for the O&W game this weekend.

Would be nice if he came back this wknd.

Sounds like Pruitt is basically telling recruits that we're not going to be too hot this year. I think that's the right way to handle it. Should tell Swanson and other folks that we're not going to be as good as they think we will be IMO.

All he said was this was going to be our worst record while he's here. I have a feeling his expectations are still much higher than yours. And that he would consider 8 or 9 wins this year not too hot, whereas you would think that's impossible. XV-Nulla
