Junior LB, Sevier County has picked up offers from Ohio State, Texas AM, Texas Tech, Michigan among others . Curious why there is no buzz from Tennessee around him.
Merge if needed.

Curious as well. Have watched him numerous times. P4 talent with the size, speed and hands.

I blame the new director of in-state recruiting.

He's going to be a tight end. He was a much more fluid mover last year so he doesn't have to stick at outside linebacker. Freak athlete at 6'5 but doesn't really make sense for Tennessee, a team that does not sub on offense. Newman is a pure chess piece receiving only tight end. He will be attractive to a lot of programs, but I question the fit. Not to say he isn't talented as I think he's great. Similar to Brame

They need to. They are late to the party and could have been in the lead position.
Not a big deal. Parker doesn’t fit at Tennessee. He’s talented enough to be there for sure but it’s always going to be hard for Heupel to use receiving only tight ends bc he never subs. Same reason you saw no Brame last year and a ton of JVD

He really needs to fix that. The way he used Fant in 2022 was the best coaching x and os I’ve seen from him with TE

Exactly.

I don't buy this is the way he has always done things so he is not a fit. He made changes in the O-line play this past season to free running lanes. He will make changes to the passing game as well. That's how he began using Ethan Davis the second half of last season. Weapons increase options.

I’m going to slightly push back on your comments. Kid is an Eli Stowers type of player. Creates mismatches all over the field. CJH is smart enough to dig deep into the playbook if the kid is talented.

He is a Mike Bobo styled tight end. IMO

Newman caught 78 passes for 1,059 yards and 10 TDs this past season. As an outside linebacker, he racked up 117 tackles, 8 pass breakups, 4 interceptions (3 returned for TDs) and 3 sacks.

Newman added another offer late Thursday, March 26, when his phone rang again. This time Tennessee tight ends coach Alec Abeln was on the line. The two talked for 40 minutes. They talked about how their fathers were a big part of their development. They cut up a bit, too. By the end of the call, Newman held an offer from the Volunteers.

“Especially growing up being a Tennessee fan, it does mean a lot,” Newman said. “But here recently, I’m just trying to find the best fit for me ... It definitely is pretty special. All my friends and family members, they’re all Tennessee fans, too. That’s all I’ve heard for the last 24 hours.”

...Besides the local connection, what has the Vols high on Newman's list is how they have used tight ends in the past. Abeln confirmed as much in their phone call. "I don’t want to be the third down guy or the first or second down guy, I want to be a combo guy playing every down," Newman said. "(Abeln) said at Tennessee they don’t like to give it away. They don’t like to put in a third down tight end to show that they’re throwing the ball or put in an in-line tight end guy on first down. They like to have that 50-50 mix. That’s who I want to be as a tight end in college. I do like that the most probably about Tennessee, the fact that they use combo tight ends.”

I agree. He's going to be a good player for someone that uses that skillset. Heupel hasn't
