Oak Ridge tight end Malik Howard felt like a Tennessee and Alabama battle for the longest time but the Crimson Tide recently took a 2027 TE so we now think Vanderbilt becomes the biggest competition for Tennessee.

Oak Ridge tight end Malik Howard plans to be over to campus in March. Tennessee is in a battle here with Vanderbilt, who is throwing money at the in-state class. Miami and Alabama are also involved.

Oak Ridge (Tenn.) High four-star tight end Malik Howard is another major target and Tennessee is one of the schools setting the pace.
“The Vols stick out to me just for the culture in the program that Coach Heupel has built over the last few years,” Howard told Rivals. “It’s like one huge family with the goal to win football games. As well they have a very explosive offense, and they think my skill set would flourish in it, especially with the quarterback play they’re expected to have for the next few years. They’ve made it clear that if I’m ready, I’ll be able to contribute heavily my freshman year, and I won’t have to worry about getting held back due to my age. I think that they are a staff that could develop me, and new additions to the program like the new strength coach just improve that thought.”
