One Prediction​

Tennessee picks up a commitment between 865Live and the first of June — Tennessee will have several key prospects in next weekend and then several underclassmen the following weekend for the Big Orange barbecue. I’m thinking someone feels froggy and ready to end the process coming out of next weekend. Tennessee has been in a dry spell without a commitment so timing may be on my side in this prediction. Oak Ridge tight end Malik Howard seems close and there has been some chatter he may not make it to official visits. Time will tell if he or someone else jumps in.

Will we get in a bidding war for him? Is he someone the staff sees contributing early? With our new high school recruiting strategy, what if one of these other schools offer more?

From what I’ve been told, TE is viewed as a need. Whether we choose to address it here…who knows.

Oak Ridge tight end Malik Howard rolls over to campus this weekend for a big unofficial visit. Notre Dame is the biggest competition for Tennessee but getting him over again before official visits start is big. Alec Abeln has done nice job building the best relationship here. Notre Dame has swung big at Jaxon Dollar and other tight ends and will likely do the same here. We expect Tennessee to be more aggressive here than other in-state players due to position.

Local four-star tight end Malik Howard is quickly approaching a decision​


Oak Ridge Tight End Malik Howard was open to the fact that he might decide any time now. “I am real close,” Howard said of this. “It will be within the next few weeks. I just have more thinking and praying to do. I could end up cutting it short.”

His official visit schedule appears to be in flux, with Tennessee seemingly being the only visit firmly locked in for the month of June. Currently he is scheduled to visit Alabama next weekend and Oregon is trying to get him to change that visit to visiting Eugene, but we’re not sure either visit happens. He is set to visit Tennessee again in two weeks before a planned trip to Notre Dame.  Alec Abeln has continued to be a constant in this recruitment for the Vols, and he continues to show his value on the recruiting trail in heavyweight battles.

Tennessee continues to look really good for Oak Ridge tight end Malik Howard. Notre Dame is working to make sure they get him to campus after he visits Tennessee next weekend and so that’s what we will be watching for because we believe there’s a real shot that visit doesn’t happen as of now. The Vols have the momentum here and will look to close it out next weekend.
