If he can hit, then put all 6’4 205lbs of him out there. That trait alone is immediate upgrade.
If you told me we would count on Redmond to start his first year I would’ve been terrified.I get what you’re saying, but getting lost in coverage would be a huge problem. Farooq will start at one Safety, but I’d be shocked if they don’t find the other starter in the portal. Plus, Walton and Beasley should develop for depth. Walton has a lot of upside and should make a jump next year.
If we’re counting on Wyatt at S as a true freshman, we’re screwed.
Same. But Redmond has been playing the position for awhile at a program (Buford) in Georgia that develops and prepares kids for college as well as anyone. A lot of those Georgia kids are underrated just because there are so many top tier players in that state. I think the fact he committed early also hurt his ranking. Those things can be political. If you told me we would count on Redmond to start his first year I would’ve been terrified.
To be fair, he's gotten picked on and arguably a big part of why we lost the UGA and Bama games (i.e., he wasn't ready through no fault of his own but was forced into action due to injuries ahead of him).If you told me we would count on Redmond to start his first year I would’ve been terrified.
I prefer we hit the portal hard at the safety position. But if by chance we don’t like last cycle, then give me Wyatt and Farooq. And as far as a freshman starting. If we don’t have at least one a year forcing you to make a tough decision, then we aren’t recruiting good enough. You should have at least one freak that forces your hand each cycle, or every other cycle. Which drives my point home about DB recruiting. To be fair, he's gotten picked on and arguably a big part of why we lost the UGA and Bama games (i.e., he wasn't ready through no fault of his own but was forced into action due to injuries ahead of him).
I think Wyatt has the traits to be a very good player here at some spot on the defense, but if we want to win 10+ games next year I don't think we want him or any other freshman (other than maybe Womack who we're not getting) starting at S.

Wyatt is brand new to the Safety position and, while Oakland is a solid program, they don’t develop players at the same level as Buford and they certainly don’t play competition on the level of Buford’s competition.
If he can tackle, play him ASAP. We don't tackle very well. It seems we spend a lot of time trying to knock the ball loose instead of putting the ball carrier on the ground. This results in giving up first downs and , in the case of later week, letting a running break the attempted ball stealing and scoring. A runner is more likely to fumble if you knock the stuffing out of him than if you try to pull the ball away. JMHO.If he can hit, then put all 6’4 205lbs of him out there. I hadn't really thought about Wyatt at Star, but the more I think about it, it might make the most sense. The best Star we've had in this defense was Theo Jackson, at 205 lbs. He wasn't as tall as Wyatt, but that's the same weight. The things they ask the Star to do in this defense might fit Wyatt's skill set and size. The question would be coverage skills.Combay will start before Wyatt.
Wyatt may get a look at STAR
