Would say CPA ceiling is a lot higher than .500. They are always able to run the ball and they have 3 future D1 OL and Eli Dickey (R.A. son) at tight end who has a D1 offer but is obviously going to be focusing on baseball at next level. Their defensive front is suspect so I imagine they might try to chew some clock this year but they can compete with anyone on their schedule except maybe Archbishop Moeller. Idk anything about them beside their Maxpreps rank (#35 natl, #1 Ohio)
You cover Tennessee so you would be more familiar than myself.
A few things before I add why I think they are set up to fail.
- preseason HS rankings you definitely can’t hang your hat on. Is Tupelo the 69th best team in HS? Is AMHS the 35th? Idk. But they’re both really good teams. For that matter is CPA really the 128th best team in HS?
- Wyatt to Oakland imo puts them closer to McCallie and Baylor just for this season obviously. They were going to be good anyway and now that they have a freak like Wyatt on offense and defense.
- Oakland is better with the addition of Wyatt
- Jaden Hill had 2,000 yards rushing for Tupelo, MS, 37 TDs. They were 14-0 and beat defending 5A Tennessee Champion-Houston 35-13 in that process. Could CPA have beaten Houston 35-13 last season?
- Mollers QB won Gatorade Offensive Player of the year in Ohio as a junior. Throwing for 57 TDS!
How good can CPA defend that level of passing attack?
- Baylor…enough said
So CPA plays those 4 teams IN A ROW. Look lol, I think Buford, GA would have trouble with that schedule.
Sorry Pearl Cohn is also in that murders row- and they return 4,000 yards from last season’s offense. CPA is better imo, but PC won’t be an easy game.
Then there’s Ensworth who might be as good as CPA- better than CPA after their confidence takes a bit.
Ravenwood- see above.
Goodpasture, MBA, are the only two for sure wins.
Catholic has Tyreek King, Roger’s at RB and they will just be a better team than last year, with their maturing QB.
Oh and then to top it off they play last years number one team in Tennessee- McCallie.
IMO CPA is on the level of Maryville, Oakland, Alcoa. All state championship caliber programs in public schools. Obviously CPA is a private school but they are in that same level of competition as those programs.
I respect them for making such a brutal schedule, but it’s really not fair imo. They play elite power running team one week then play an elite air raid attack the following week, then…Baylor.
