It doesn’t matter if we have good cbs who are recruits or transfers. Just have good ones 2 deep. Freshmen nowadays seem to give it a season or 2 for PT then look to move on anyway for $ or PT.

Have you ever watched our defense? We have 5 DBs most of the time. Our base is a 4-2-5.

I don't see evidence that CJH staff has obtained that level of success yet. I am not saying that UT's DBs are not good or that we have not attracted talent from the Transfer Portal.

CJH & staff has recruited 8 Transfer Portal and 14 HS DBs not including the 2025 recruits. Of those only 1 HS DB is in the 2 deep CB rotation. That shows either a bad talent evaluation or poor development as we know TN prefers HS recruits over Transfer Portal recruits. UT is very selective in the Transfer Portal.

Harrison played well at NB- transferred
Matthews - transferred
Conyer- transferred twice
Gibson- starter

Hadden - portal in (NFL Draft)
McCoy- portal in (All American)
Jeudy Lallhy- portal in (unsure)

Only bust I see is Matthews maybe.
Conyer shouldn’t have been a take probably.

Gibson is a very solid CB, could definitely end up being a day 3 draft pick. But I really dont see any other hs player that we signed that is poised to be drafted besides him. I do think McCoy and Hood will be drafted too, but they are transfers.

I don't know why I keep seeing arguments that dismiss transfers and focus only on recruiting in evaluating a coach's recruiting ability in a world where the transfer portal is our new reality. Are we going to continue to not give any of our coaches credit for transfer players? Don't we realize a coach's recruiting ability in this environment is equal to his budget?

Why does it matter if they come from high school or the portal? Other than to give you a reason to criticize? It’s 2025…the portal is a thing.

If they put good players on the field, I don’t care where they came from. Gibson and McCoy comprise one of the best starting CB tandems in the SEC. I’d venture to say that Boo is one of the top Star/Nickels in the SEC. Hood and McMurray are two of the best backups in the SEC.

This staff acquired all of those guys, either from the portal or from high school. You’re just looking for a reason to bitch, so you set up this artificial construct in order to claim that this staff is failing, instead of pointing to, you know, THE ACTUAL PRODUCT ON THE DAMN FIELD.

I swear, some of the most miserable people on Earth post on this board and their misery is entirely manufactured.

An aspect of the portal that occasionally comes into play is that, with a year or two of experience, a player is able to see that another coaching staff that he turned down was actually the most truthful to him, in their assessments of where he could/should play.

And sometimes, that's enough to bring him back into that fold.

Im a Tennessee fan all the way, but ....would you want to go to a school that believed in you all the way, or a school that obviously had doubts in you?

For the work the athlete puts in, how can you blame them? Its not holding it against a coaching staff, but it's natural to be attracted to something that you feel wants you. You are looking at it from a fans perspective and made, in my opinion, an ignorant comment.

There’s tons of athletes that doesn’t get looked at by their home schools.

He’s not the only one.

Trying to hold it against the staff because they didn’t actively recruit him hard is being petty imo.
