'18 TN OL/DL Cade Mays (Transfer)

If it's merely a "business" or "relationship" decision, then why the animosity towards UT recruits who were/are considering UT? It is deeper than that. You may have certain opinions or feelings about another coach or school but that doesn't mean you broadcast it on Twitter or comment on other possible recruits.

Why is it so important to know the truth? What if it's a really private family issue that soured Cade on UT or its coaches? Why is there this overwhelming desire to understand the deep-rooted emotions of an 18-year old college football player?

At the end of the day, it doesn't matter. He very likely won't be wearing our shade of orange; by himself he will not bring us National Championships or SEC Titles. He could rupture a tendon in practice for Georgia, Clemson, or whoever he chooses and never play football the same way again. We could land a 3-star player in the coming days/weeks that outperforms Cade on a collegiate level.

So many variables, and no reason to waste so much time worrying about his life, his dad's life, or their family decision-making process.

Parents "steer" their kids every day...that's one of the primary responsibilities of a parent. Whether the color jersey the parent wore or the kid will wear factors into the discussion is pretty much nobody's business but theirs. To say that a parent shouldn't counsel ("steer") an 18 year old young man is dumb. To say that someone is a traitor is they counsel a kid differently that you would is similarly dumb. If the family collectively decides that he should go to UGA, fine.

On the flip side, if he does, I hope that UT beats the ever living crap out of him every year, and I hope those around him make him miserable for choosing UGA over UT. I respect your right to choose. I also maintain my right to treat you like I would treat anyone who chose UGA over UT.

No, I didn't take it as Gospel which is why I said "if" but it was also coming from Clemson posters as well. I believe that there is possibly some truth to it otherwise why would he continue to troll UT fans and have completely eliminated them even though UT arguably has better coaches now?

“If” isn’t a big player in your posts. You keep pointing to it but keep writing it as otherwise.

Is popcorn being served in this thread? Asking for a friend who wants to watch the continued meltdown and expects it to last for some time.

He could join the Ukranian Army for all I care. I just don't get the animosity towards UT. I am all for players making their decisions on their own but there is no need to disparage the school your father played for and the school you were committed to for two years; jmho

The Georgia thing is about Sam Pittman and NFL. They got a first have look a few years back. It is a business decision. Get over it.

Agree Pittman is the primary reason he's looking at UGA. My guess is that Kevin Mays is very comfortable with Pittman and probably Chaney as well; due to them both coaching at Tennessee. I don't think it's any more complicated than Cade trying to figure out which position coach can get him ready for the NFL.

It's a doucher move to steer someone to UGA over UT. I am sorry if that offends you maybe you should not get so easily offended. I couldn't care less where he plays. It is what it is

As someone who has two kids in college, the kids are the ones that do the steering when it comes to picking a college. Sure, my wife and I discussed the various options with our kids, but in the end we left it up to them to decide since they're the ones that have to be there for four years. I'm sure high level athletes like Cade are even more opinionated as to where they want to go because of how much time they will have to spend with their position coach and S&C staff.

UGA would be a major slap in the face by the Mays family which probably means that's where he's headed. At least, Clemson is in another conference. CU can prepare him just as well as UGA.

I'm not sure I see the "disparage the school your father played for" element that you do. Give me some examples.

Honestly the only thing he's done that bothers me is not allow an in home by Fulmer and Pruitt. His dad played for Fulmer. Not sure whose call this was but I just don't get it.

17 and 18 year olds do not know what’s in their best interest at least 99% of the time. While you can’t force them, you can heavily suggest something or as some said “steer” them. For example, I went to college right out of high school like most do and I did so because all my friends did. My dad wanted me to go into the military but I said hell no. Well 3 semesters and 400 parties later I flunked out and took my dads advice and went into the Navy. Spent 5 years active duty and matured, then re-enrolled in college afterward and took a 1.9 GPA to a 3.6 GPA then went on to grad school and got my MBA with a 3.75 GPA. It all worked out for me but only because I finally listened to someone who had been there done that. If I’d listened originally I could’ve saved myself 2 years and saved my parents $20,000. I had an MBA with $0 in student loans and didn’t have to lean on mommy and daddy. Also helped me buy several houses for my own use and rental properties right out of college with the VA loan system.

Every kid eventually says “mom/dad you were right”. The sooner every kid figures that out the better off most will be. 17 and 18 year olds especially these days are so out of touch with reality that there’s no way most will make proper big time decisions. Too many influences not called parents. On the other hand there are plenty of parents who shouldn’t give ANYONE advice on life. So I’d say it really just depends on the situation. Hindsight is always more clear.

Opposite for me. I wanted to join the army but my mom insisted I go to college. Parents were divorced so my dad didn't have a whole lot of input, but just said I should keep mom happy. Flunked out my first semester because as I knew, I wasn't focused. Joined the army. Later I went back to school and eventually earned 2 Masters. So I fulfilled my mom's hopes for college, just not on her timeline.

People from other forums claim Pruitt flew off the handle and swore at Mays during their meeting at Catholic. They also claim Fulmer was very embarrassed. No way either of those things are remotely true. Pruitt didn’t get to be one of the most respected recruiters by being a loose cannon.

Thx...it surprises me this thread continues to grow....honestly ...he made his choice not us...best of luck I won't be in here anymore...

Pruit knows all about mean bad a** players. . Cade is not a four year starter that will be guaranteed a NFL career. He is big and mean but when challenged he resorts to fouling and completely going rouge. That works in high school but not in the SEC. He seems like a bully.. Not sure that will work in the college ranks. I would be willing to bet that he doesn’t see the field at TN, or any othe top school, until he at least a junior.

Not allowing an in-home in that situation is pretty much shooting us the bird. It couldn't be more plain that we're being told to eff off.

Honestly both him and his brother look like the stereotypical B1G lineman with cankles that gets blown away by SEC d lines. If he signs with Vols I'll be more excited about him artificially inflating our class ranking than him as a prospective player. Always been a "meh" prospect to me, which I realize means nothing.
