'18 TN OL/DL Cade Mays (Transfer)

Cade will most likely end up at Tennessee. Ya'll gotta stop freaking out. I swear it's like you guys think he wears Clemson pajamas to bed or something. He is just on a high right now because Clemson is pampering and praising him. Give it sometime to let Fulmer and Pruitt talk to him and convince him to really think things over and not make a rash decision based on feelings and emotions. Hopefully the mood changes in here when he doesn't partake in early signing period.

Most likely? What gives you any reason to believe that?

Cade's been flashing those paw print gloves for weeks. He'd probably be taunting much more if his parents let him. The concern isn't losing Cade; it's how successfully Clemson is using negative peer recruiting to recruit TN kids.

These former TN commits and legacies have turned viciously against UT. They call Catholic HS Clemson Catholic and think they have it on lockdown.

I could care less where Mays goes. In general, recruits who like drama do that for a reason. His reasoning makes no sense. He wants to win championships yet committed to Jones but decided he couldn't play for UT as long as Jones was the coach?? Now, he doesn't want to play for UT because Jones isn't the coach and never gave the new staff a shot? He either loves the drama or is just making stuff up as he goes.

I heard he is coming with Gruden.

The easy remedy is for UT to put a better product on the field.

agreed. but at some point we're going to have get kids like higgins and mays to stay home to speed that up.

i don't think Mays is coming to ut, and i think it's probably time to expend resources elsewhere.

but some of these kids that are home grown like those two, have to realize it's going to take kids like that coming to UT to get it to that point.

and there is a part of me that says if you don't want to be part of that, then that's fine. clemson is an easy sell, and a path of least resistance to whatever goals they have for themselves and whatever team goals they might have.

all i know is both of those kids committed to TN at one point, and both got sold on another path. it happens. i don't think it will happen as much going forward.

It's been pretty well known for a while that Cade is strongly favoring Clemson and that the staff turnover and instability made him exclude UT.
So, what has changed

Wrong x2. He isn't coming to UT and he will sign early. Unfortunate for us because he would start day 1 at guard.

Or 75% of the reasons you heard on this site are not true.

Because this guy grew up literally wearing Tennessee pajamas to bed. I feel like my argument could end there, but I will spell it out a little more.

Obviously Cade let everyone know why he was decommitting from Tennessee and planning on going to Clemson with his tweet saying "I will never be with someone who is okay with being average".

Tennessee had proven that it was okay with being average the past decade. That is the whole reason the Schiano riot happened because the fan base was tired of mediocrity. Well the culture here is changing and this is a new era with Phil Fulmer at the helm.

The only thing that Fulmer has to convince Cade of is that Tennessee is going to start winning again.

A winning organization is the only thing that Clemson has over Tennessee. Cade's Father went to Tennessee. Cade grew up in Tennessee. Cade has been a Tennessee fan his whole life. Cade has grown up going to games dreaming of running through the T at Tennessee. Cade has alot of strong relationships that he has built at Tennessee. One of Cades best friends is committed to Tennessee. I mean I could go on, but the point is its not like Fulmer has to speak in tongues in order to flip Cade back to Tennessee. I think it very likely Cade recommits to Tennessee.

The deck is stacked in Tennessee favor now. The one thing we were missing is being committed to winning and now we have that with the new staff in place and the House of Haslams dethroned (partially).

Ya'll got to realize that Cade is still a kid. Getting him to change his mind isn't going to be some impossible task, especially with everything being in our favor.

Yes, however most of the staff is in place and in my opinion it is a far better staff than what Butch Jones had and the administration is no longer unstable. Everything is running smoothly with Fulmer at the helm.

How much less could you care?

Can we stop with the “he’s just a kid” crap? Teenagers know right from wrong and can think for themselves. Some young people happen to have many options for college and want to weigh their options. They’re not automatically stupid just because they’re not 18 or older.

Dabo went in home last night and tried to get him to commit and cancel his OV this weekend. Tn could go in home again on Sunday after his OV.

Well he is a kid. He is still in high school and lives with his parents. I am not saying he doesn't know right from wrong. You're taking my statement to the extreme.

I am just saying that this thing is not over with like a lot of people are making it out to be. He could just as easily change his mind and recommit to Tennessee.

I believe he should go wherever he feels most comfortable. If he is comfortable being 4-5 hours away from his family then let the kid be. With that being said I would love to see him play for the Volunteers.

Between all the negative comments on this board and the absolutely stupid tweets that I have seen posted on Twitter about him, I would be highly impressed by his decision to come to school here. The negativity of the fan base with access to social media has been very disheartening for me to see especially when it has been aimed at a local high school student.

I have stated my case. I will leave this thread alone until early signing period. I just hate all the negativity in here thinking we will never get Cade. I mean we just recommitted Alontae Taylor mind you.

Maybe I haven't been a Vol fan long enough for BVS to impact me like it has most of you here (so it seems). I don't know. My opinion is that we end up getting Cade Mays.

Yep you are a troll.

This is a tough one to lose but I am anxious to see what Pruitt and staff can do with a full year to build relationships with players. We can recover from losing a really good offensive line prospect... and we will.

It would be nice if Cade wanted to be part of the rebuild process, but we sold the last batch of legacies 5 years ago on being part of a rebuild process, and here we are starting the process over. Some kids want to be a part of the rebuild process, and others, as you say, want to take the easy route to playing on a championship team. I don't blame Cade. It is hard to tell a recruit, who has 3-4 years to play at the college level, that if he signs with us we can get this thing turned around in 2-3 years. In 2-3 years, hopefully we will be at the point where the Cade Mays will view UT as the easy route to a championship, but for now we are on the outside looking in.
