From someone who knows mays
The only two coaches that would bring him here were Les Miles or John Gruden because both have won championships. Cade wants to win championships. He has grown up seeing Tennessee delve into mediocrity despite staff changes, good recruiting classes, etc. Cade doesnt want to get here and be a part of the cycle. He wants to go somewhere where the staff has proven they can win championships. I think part of him wants to hedge his bets in that if Tennessee is good, he would be very happy for this program. He just is doing whats best for him. Hes seen recruits sold for years the premise of bringing Tennessee back to greatness and something always stops it. We are all excited about the hire, I know I am. I believe in Jeremy Pruitt. But at the end of the day there is a ton of uncertainty with a staff like this especially on the offensive side of the ball, and Cade wants to go somewhere that he knows is stable.
I dont jump in threads to defend him all the time because at the end of the day him wanting to go somewhere else will just rub some people the wrong way. I am sure Cade told Phil what would keep him here, but Phil went a direction he felt was best for the program as a whole. Nothing wrong with that and most likely a great decision. Again I dont know what Cade told Phil in their meeting but I can only assume he let Phil know the 2 names that would have kept him here. I support Cade 100% for wanting to go to a program that has stability. Im hoping for Clemson over Georgia at this point but I am not sure which hell decide on

Gruden or Les Miles!? Thats freaking pathetic lol
I'm sure they will but Clemson is the most complete team of the 4. Far fewer weaknesses than the other 3. Clemson could beat Ala, GA and Okl on a neutral field more times than not.
I call BS on this decommitment.... Did this kid really think that Butch Jones was going to become a National Championship coach at Tennessee???? There's a lot more to this story than meets the eye.
I hope Cade reconsiders and comes to help Tennessee become a national contender again. I for one though, don't believe this " going somewhere to be a national champ" crap!!:crazy::loco:
Multiple posters on VQ saying Cade has burned a lot of bridges with current players and commits. Big ego. One guy said he was the one who filmed the fight with Gaulden and Shy and leaked it. TIFWIW
No matter what the truth is in this situation unless we hear that Fulmer and Pruitt got an in home really soon we might as well just close this thread.

I am in the same camp, something just isnt right. So Mays wants to win championships. Yet he had to see that UT under Butch had zero chance of doing that. Either he is a complete moron, or something is fishy.

"Its not that we doesnt to play for Pruitt. When this season went into the dumpster, and knew Butch was gone, he started looking around and more teams starting calling him. He was convicted to visit Clemson, and loved it. He bonded well with the team and the family atmosphere. He also got to know Dabo who can sell ice to Eskimos. Dabo can only take 14 to 15 signees this year. They have like 20 to 25 five / four stars that want in. Dabo promised one of only 2 spots he has left to Cade. Cade silently committed to Dabo a month ago. Also, Cade became great friends with the class they have committed, especially with Trevor Lawrence. Trevor is hyped to be the next Peyton Manning. Once in a life time college QB. On top of that you have Tee Higgins and Amari Rogers with the East TN connections telling him Clemson is just amazing. Add in that they won the Natty last, and they are the #1 seed this year. Also, one of the offensive Tackles might turn Pro this year, and Cade was told he has a change to start for the Top rated College team in the country. Cade gave Dabo is word, and it does not matter who TN hired, he is going to Clemson. Thanks a lot Butch."
