'18 TN OL/DL Cade Mays (Transfer)

2 words...Jon Gruden.

That’s all that matters right now. Make that hire, and we will be turning elite talent away from running through the T.

Those idiots in the administration better do something good and do it fast. The signing class will end up being a bunch of Vanderbilt and Kentucky rejects.

All you local homers need to rethink this "bleeds orange" Kids today want to win games and complete for championships.. We are not doing either

Most ADs are way more concerned with getting the head coaching hire right, than they are an 18 year old recruit who may or may not work out. Georgia went through this when they fired Richt. He got fired the day after the Georgia Tech game...the last game of the season. When Richt was fired, a lot of Georgia fans were worried about losing Eason. He ended up signing, and ironically, is now the backup. The early signing period complicates things a little. Of course there's always the possibility that Cade decides not to early enroll and takes his recruitment to NSD in order to give Tennessee a chance to hire a new coach.

Yes. Cade wants to win, and there are influences in both Clemson and UGA that are too strong for a coach to pull him back this late. Cade decomitting is Cade being done as a chance for UT.
The kid is a lifelong fan and spent so many years coming to games here. He has no choice but to look around with the Jones situation. With that said....if Grumors plays out...Chip Kelly...a HC name like that reels Mays back in.

It will be tough to get Cade back on board. He waited a while to decommit and put a lot of thought into his decision. In the end, he wants to play for a program that is committed to winning championships and is ready to win an NC in the next three years. Recruits no longer perceive UT as that kind of program.

Cade is going to announce on 12/20 and is an EE. Timing is against us.

What good is firing the guy that they committed to n the first place? You can't sign and place a new coach until seasons end. What's to gain?

If getting blown out by GA and Bama followed by a loss to KY did not get Butch fired, I can't imagine they are going to do anything before the season ends.

So if we make a huge hire he would not reconsider? If it's Gruden? If it's another Butch Jones roll of the dice type hire I doubt we keep many of the recruits.

Spoken as if you have insider knowledge. If not, your guess is as good as anyone's.

Meanwhile, John Currie fiddles...

Given his comment about a national title, I don't think it matters who we hire. We are light years from being at that level. No way any coach flips this roster and has it at that level in 3-4 years. Huge leap of faith on Cade's part to imagine that being possible for UT. Safe play is Clemson. They're on a roll. Dabo is solid. Clemson won't be beating the hell out of dads alma mater like UGA would. It's really his best move under the circumstances.

I disagree. I think a great coach could absolutely have us competing for championships before Cade leaves. Butch had the roster in position to go toe to toe with bama in year 3. Imagine what that roster could have done with good coaching and player development.

Sure. But Kevin Mays is pretty connected into the program. He's a donor, and he knows the score. UT is missing some key pieces moving forward. The program has taken a big step back, and we're looking at a rebuild. The better the hire, the less rebuilding we'll have to do, but we're going to need several strong recruiting classes to replenish talent and depth. We're several years behind the UGAs and the Clemsons.

You can't worry about stuff like this and you certainly can't let a coach hold your program hostage because of the threat of players decommitting. #cutthecancerout

Just realize one thing. History suggests that Cade likely would have been a huge bust after being coached up by Butch and his people. He should play for a coach that can help him perform and win. If UT can hire a coach in time maybe he comes back. Maybe UT waited too long already.

Lol if it was all about winning he wouldn't have committed to UT in the first place...this is about Butch not being back next year
