'24 TN EDGE Steven Soles

Interested to see if they even go RB. TE room looks good already so as long as Brame and VD stay, why go there.

OT question - if Heard leaves would Osenda not be penciled in to RT and Sanders LT? Nobody talks about Osenda like the did Sanders coming in (“he’ll start immediately”) despite being another 5* OT. I’m not a film guru. Does he need time?

Guess also Perry could play RT.
Perry is the RT next year if Heard leaves. Warren would be next in line. If Osenda is playing, we’re in trouble.

Back to Steven Soles, at 6'2" 235 and quick, I think it would be good depth at LB .Comes with experience and some time starting in the SEC.
I don't see the downside but I'm not on coaching staff, for good reason.

It wouldn’t be the worst move. He could work at EDGE and be a 3rd down “heater”

Kid has some juice, but a change of scenery could help.

Hes a solid player

This program plays Telander a million snaps a game and this kid is easily better than him although a diff skillset and role.

Why do people think Telander could play edge any better than LB?

Your elite edges have to be incredibly quick off the ball, and he hasn’t shown anything to give me that impression.

IMO, he’s just another LB that we need to recruit over. Similar to our leading tackler a few years ago.

Because he has already shown an ability to do it. You talk like the guy runs in molasses or drags his leg from a war wound. He isn't athletic or quick enough to cover most TEs and WRs, or spy and contain athletic QBs. But he is pretty good at getting after the passer. You're tossing the word "elite" around and no one is asking him to be an elite edge rusher. Just go be effective. By all accounts, Telander is a good teammate and his leadership is an asset. He just needs to be put in position to be effective. If he insists on playing LB, then I'd imagine he's already been recruited over, or he can go try his hand at LB in the ACC or CUSA.

There is a difference in blitzing and lining up when the tackle knows you’re coming.

He hasn’t shown any traits to indicate he’d be in the 3 deep at edge IMO.

All the other traits you brought up do nothing to change that fact, counselor. Stick to what’s relevant.

The other traits I mentioned are plenty relevant as reasons to keep him around the team while you seem eagerly ready to ship him off. If he insists on playing LB and expects to get starter snaps, I'm with you. If he's open to being used in other ways that may put his best skills to use but in a reduced role, then I say give him a shot over paying to bring someone else to be a depth piece that he could easily mirror. I don’t see us trying to bring in an elite Edge and Steven Soles certainly isn't that, your honor.

If he is satisfied just playing Special Teams, you may have a point. However, I’m betting against that.

I don’t dislike him and have tried not to disparage his play. He did his best, but think he’s in over his head as an SEC player.

I haven’t mentioned Soles & don’t believe he’s an answer to our problems on defense, so that’s also irrelevant in the discussion of Telander as an edge.

You're in the Steven Soles thread, bub. Every mention of Telander at Edge has been in reference to Soles making himself available in the transfer portal. So yeah, it's relevant.

As for Telander, if you think he's in over his head as an SEC player, that's your prerogative. I happen to think he is in over his head as an SEC Linebacker, but think he can possibly be of use at another position that utilizes his strengths in certain packages, as is my prerogative. Feel free to disagree on that point.
