So we were still going to honor his LOI even though he slacked and didn't get his academics in order to get enrolled on time...but he chose not to honor his? Ehhh....oh well..bye.

He apparently just recently got his academics in order. However, we have a full 85 scholarships accounted for this year if you include JJ. So, we told him he could sit out this Fall and enroll in January and play next year. He chose to ask for a release and find somewhere to play this Fall.

I think I heard last week he was going into coaching. Had given up on playing football but was in some other sport. Maybe John Wilkerson mentioned it. Or maybe not.

I was so disappointed that Zach had decided not to play. I was certain he was making a mistake and that his mother would NOT have wanted him to give up his dream. However in hindsight I'm glad the young man avoided the Butch Jones clown show. The poor young man has been through enough.

Huh?

Seems to me he doesn't have the option to enroll right now and has to wait until December.

There are people on that list of 85 who everyone knows will not contribute anything beyond maybe some garbage time reps against ETSU. Why didn't they clear one of those out? This is not the Saban way.

FWIW, there have been murmurs that the staff wasn't super high on lawless anyway.

One has to wonder if the grade issue was exaggerated to process him out.

Reputation of his HS has taken a hit because of this ordeal.

I’d say no, but then I think back to his weird quote about not knowing what the issue was a few months ago 🤔

I don't think they exaggerated the grade issue. If he didn't have grade issues he could have enrolled on time. When he didn't, they took the opportunity to add someone else. If they were really sold on him they would have left more opportunity like the did with Peterson. IMO they honored his commitment and accepted his LOI, but when he gave them a reason to think he wouldn't get in this year they filled the spot with someone who could help immediately. They also gave him the option of enrolling after the season. So it's not like they completely processed him.

One has to wonder if he had taken care of business in the classroom and on the football field, there would be no need for this thread.
