Private doesn’t necessarily mean better education-wise. Idk about Nashville Christian, so I can’t say for them. But there are plenty of small private schools nowadays that exist more for parents to shelter their children than for academics.

Lots of great private schools out there too, of course. But it’s a mistake to assume that a school has good education just because it’s private.

If you want to get into the debate of private vs public education....ok (I really don't want to go down that road). There is a simple reason why some private schools avg scores are going down.....it's called recruiting. Students are starting to get into private schools where 20 yrs ago they couldn't pass the entrance exam.

I just hope he gets in and does great things at UT. If not...come to The Peay!:good!:

NCS sends 100% of its graduates to a four-year college. It's not one of the best private schools in TN, but the guidance counselor knows what it takes to get into UT. If a student isn't on track at the end of JR year, private schools track academics to ensure acceptance.

I wasn’t really trying to get into any debate. I wasn’t even aware of private school scores going down. That type of thing can be misleading anyway. My HS had some great ACT averages while I was there, but after I left and they made the ACT mandatory, the scores went wayyyy down. Turns out kids who don’t plan on going to college usually don’t put much time or effort into preparing for or performing well on the ACT.

My only point was that not all private schools are necessarily great schools. I wasn’t aware that was a controversial statement.

Thanks for the info on NCS :hi:

No problem. I'm not advocating for NCS-- I looked it up because I was interested to see if there was an issue with the school.

You're right about some private schools. There's a reason SC is referred to as the University of Spoiled Children.

It wasn't. I didn't take it that way at all. :good!:

I wasn’t meaning to throw any shade at NCS or private schools in general. Just meant to point out that not every private school is MBA.

Didn't take it that way. In this case, I think things may have gotten a little dicier than expected. IMO, it could come down to timing. He's going to miss summer workouts and his conditioning won't be what the coaches expected or need. He had a spot, but he hasn't been cleared to enroll and now a decision has to be made. It won't be surprising if the coaches move on.

I taught P.E. At a small private school in East TN. The makeup of students consisted of parents who wanted their kids to receive a religious infused education and to keep their kids more sheltered from the traditional public school experience without going to the extent of home schooling. The other faction of students were from wealthy families and the kids were either trouble makers, outcasts, or didn’t fit in and their parents wanted them in a place their money/donations could give them power to dictate how their kids were treated, playing time on sports teams, status in school functions, etc. The staff was top notch and the school had the best intentions, but they also needed money to survive and “the best of the best” was not the makeup of the school by any means.

NCS is a rather small school (521 in grades K-12 with 196 of the students in grades 9-12). Does seem odd that a school that points to a 100% rate of acceptance to 4-year universities would struggle to ensure that a high profile athlete would fail to qualify. With a sliding SAT scale ranging from a 400 (GPA greater than or equal to 3.55) to a 1010 (GPA of 2.00), I am curious what gpa he has.

I assume he was going to redshirt anyway, so maybe he still enrolls in the fall.

The VQ podcast last week mentioned that Lawless had some personal or family issues going on his senior year that seemed to affect him in the classroom and on the football field. They didn't go into any details though.

In Chattanooga? one of the catholic ones perhaps?

because this sounds exactly like what happened at my school.

With Kennedy's enrollment, will Lawless enroll in the fall, push to spring 2019, or look elsewhere?

Hubbs said Lawless had some work to do and still plans to enroll in August awhile back. There should be another update by mid july. That is when most summer schools end.
