'20 TN DE Jay Hardy (Auburn commit)

It's a ****ing marathon, not a sprint. If there was ever a kid that would be a candidate for a late flip IT'S THIS ****ING KID. He's not signing until Feb. Let's win out, let's watch AUB drop two in a row, and then let it all sort itself out by Feb. But let's try to stop burning the bridge in the meantime. Take deep breaths, people.
Nothing you are saying adds up. Maybe someone said something to you but it’s bs excuses from sketchy people. The kid is probably a pawn for family, handlers, etc. I don’t put a lot of stock in supposed insiders. If the coaches treated him so bad why was he going to commit before the last second Auburn visit? And Tennessee’s engineering program is ranked ahead of Auburn’s so that doesn’t fly either. If a bridge was burned, it was by a kid and his family. Blaming the fans on an internet message board is nothing but another weak excuse to cover their own poor behavior. The program will be ok with or without this kid.

I get that but that doesnt explain telling folks its Tennessee on Monday.

you've been following this recruiting game for years 88... we are dealing with 17 year olds...

I think using the word "lying" is harsh.. dishonest? Maybe a bit? maybe he was truly grappling the decision-- chase the hometown dream or follow the school that has actually been proactive in the recruitment and shown him they want him? It's hard but you gotta look out for your future.

Maybe he is buying that Rocker won't be around much longer? Same argument for Gus too but hey, who knows who's selling what?

at the end of the day-- this really friggin blows. I hope the staff learns from this. I personally think Pruitt makes big changes in the offseason.

I think some of you need to come down off your high horses and face the facts. The facts are staring you in the face. Someone has to face the music.
What name did u use on your last account here on VN? Been a fan for a long time u say but joined in October?
I think u wore your last troll account out and came back reborn..

So let’s say you’re right. And let’s just confirm he received a large gift for his commitment. In that situation, what happens to the gift? Is it returned?? I’m serious. We all know this happens but I can’t imagine a kid or family getting a couple of cars, a new house or bags of money, reneging on that and there not being some kind of consequence. Help me understand how this unfolds.

I can say this. Look at our LB recruits and D lineman recruits coming in and that's about all you need to know. It answers itself.
I can't argue with that. It's just a combination of everything that absolutely makes no sense.

and im probably logging out now because I see the impending bashing headed my way. Love you all my fellow vols. We'll be fine defensively. I'm worried about offensive recruitment tbh... this staff is EXCELLENT on the defensive side.
Yes we need skill players desperately and are striking out everywhere.

maybe just maybe the visit to AUB was confirmation that they REALLY did want him, and the visits with the vols did the opposite?

maybe he REALLY wanted to be a vol but lackluster recruiting from our end pushed him away?

after months of having to do the work himself in his recruitment to TN, one trip to AUB was all he needed to see that another school might've just wanted him more? Vols staff could've just believed him to be a lock and focused energy elsewhere. Has happened to TN so many times..Auburn probably just beat Rocker & Sherrer in recruiting this kid straight up.

Hate playing devil's advocate, but having seen the inside before, this easily could've played out this way.

also INB4 "But BAGMEN DUDE!!"

we all have bagmen. Everyone does. Everyone spends money. I have zero doubt in my mind we would pony up what is necessary. When cash is a wash-- it comes down to who wants the kid more. I do believe Auburn just showed him they wanted him more. Pruitt will be replacing some staff this offseason.
Then why continue to tell everyone he's committed to UT up until the announcement? Why tell other recruits your solid to TN after the Auburn visit and just days before your announcement? What really has people upset is the dishonesty with how he handled this. If he didn't feel the love, tell the staff you feel more wanted by Auburn and that's your decision. Don't continue to make them believe you're solid.

I’m not saying the staff definitely did everything correctly in this recruitment (but honestly, I think the stuff being relayed by Gucci and GV is just family trying to defend some questionable actions).

But the fact that there are people on this board mocking the possibility that Auburn might have paid him is really perplexing. We don’t have to speculate...we know they do. It’s basically public record, at this point.

I hope not friend but it's really difficult for these guys to accept anything other than the narrative at this point. Soon one of them will and it will change the conversation and cause them to look at the real cause.

You may be disagreed with, but I dont know why some see that as bashing. Thanks for the insight and alternate thoughts on what may have happened.

It's not anyone's fault! The dude decided to turn traitor on his own. Maybe someone could've done something more, but I doubt anything would have made a difference. He knew we freaking needed him badly and still chose somewhere else out of the blue leaving us surprised at the alter without a back up. To say he didn't think we really wanted him on the team and chose Auburn because they did seems like BS to me. He knew he was in fact a top priority player and position group despite how any self taken trips went or how bad at recruit coddling Rocker and Sherrer are. These are just excuses to justify the betrayal.

Therein is the problem. At some point your going to have to accept the truth. You have to push through adversity and search out what went wrong. Closing your eyes to a problem doesn't help solve it.
I don't think you'd know truth if it bit you on your ass. You obviously have a narrative and you'll stick to it, even if proven wrong.

Not going to bash you. Just don't agree with how he handled it if you're right. There is a right and wrong way that real men handle things, and we understand your word means everything.
