'20 TN DE Jay Hardy (Auburn commit)

Every recruit that interviews talks about how TN rolls out the academic red carpet, so I am not buying the "football only" slant - plus, it's not like AU has a world-renowned Engineering program. It is OK, but they are best known for Construction Science and their Ag/Vet programs.

Why lie to everyone, including other players that were your potential teammates - and as recently as Monday night? That part does not hold water.

I hate the fact we missed on this kid as bad as any of us do. Still have to respect the kids decision and not call kids names or bad things. These things only cause a kid to know he did the right thing. Others don't look at these things as a good thing either.
Find where I called the kid a name. You won't because I didn't.

It's a ****ing marathon, not a sprint. If there was ever a kid that would be a candidate for a late flip IT'S THIS ****ING KID. He's not signing until Feb. Let's win out, let's watch AUB drop two in a row, and then let it all sort itself out by Feb. But let's try to stop burning the bridge in the meantime. Take deep breaths, people.

Much easier to flop on the floor and throw a fit.

Had a chat with Coach K earlier. From someone who was on those visits, it really sounds like we dropped the ball. All those visits to UT were apparently of Jay's own volition, not because he was being asked and invited all the time. AUB was constantly begging him to come. They also put a major emphasis on academics (Jay wants to be an engineer), we didn't. AUB was just more consistent it sounds like. Rocker is a good coach, but man, he seems to disappear on the trail. Doesn't sound like its over though, so stop trashing the kid for ****s sake.

Beyond that, we have to focus on winning THIS year, and recruiting will work itself out in the long term. Winning fixes everything. Worry about the ones we get, etc etc etc.
I am not doubting the conversation you had, but that just does not seem believable to me. Why would we not show a local kid love when he is clearly so talented? How many recruits have left here gushing about the academic programs we have? I am sorry, but that just does not make sense to me.

No one in this thread is claiming to be an insider. But even if they were, they can only go by what they are told by the recruits. Read the post from VQ. Hardy and his entire family lied to the staff and other commits. Everyone, including Jeremy Pruitt, thought he was committing to TN today.
Man, this must bring back bad memories from Fulmer. He and his staff experienced this same thing more than once. I would hate to think my job depended on 18 year old kids.

Another lie imo. It doesnt add up to every other recruit or VQ.

@Geaux_Vols if what he told you is true, and is plausible because Rocker has a reputation for not being great on the recruiting trail, who was the secondary recruiter? These guys each have 2 coaches plus Pruitt from time to time. So who was the other guy that dropped the ball? And then the last second flip, I just don't buy what he is saying. And why is he in here for pages vehemently defending this. Why waste your time?

This isnt about a kid picking another place. The only fact is that you are completely oblivious to that.
It kills me that another in state kid didn't choose us. It would be great to be able to hear his reasoning.
Bear we all know that other teams recruiters paint Tennessee in the worst possible light.
Not to mention Tennessee hasn't helped the situation with its play on the field that much this year.

I still hope we flip him. We need him in this class.

So.... you are choosing to BELIEVE someone from the camp that just LIED to Everyone?

Shame we didn't sell him academics, we have a great engineering dept.

maybe just maybe the visit to AUB was confirmation that they REALLY did want him, and the visits with the vols did the opposite?

maybe he REALLY wanted to be a vol but lackluster recruiting from our end pushed him away?

after months of having to do the work himself in his recruitment to TN, one trip to AUB was all he needed to see that another school might've just wanted him more? Vols staff could've just believed him to be a lock and focused energy elsewhere. Has happened to TN so many times..Auburn probably just beat Rocker & Sherrer in recruiting this kid straight up.

Hate playing devil's advocate, but having seen the inside before, this easily could've played out this way.

also INB4 "But BAGMEN DUDE!!"

we all have bagmen. Everyone does. Everyone spends money. I have zero doubt in my mind we would pony up what is necessary. When cash is a wash-- it comes down to who wants the kid more. I do believe Auburn just showed him they wanted him more. Pruitt will be replacing some staff this offseason.

But this isnt why most are upset with it, its that he lied to fellow recruits and the staff. Why lie? Just shows your character or lack of.

I can say this. Look at our LB recruits and D lineman recruits coming in and that's about all you need to know. It answers itself.
