TN Commit David Oku

It could get much worse. Look at the other teams and who they have returning. Then look at UT and do the same. Not a pretty sight. I don't have much faith in BJ going to Gainsville and winning. Do you?

Did you have much faith in Erik Ainge winning as a freshman in Knoxville? How about Casey Clausen as a sophomore in 2001 in Gainesville?

Ok I can handle losing Oku more than Stokes. There will be other good RB's next year but if we lost Stokes I may tear up a tad cause we need WR. I hope Kiffin comes and we keep Stokes and land Marlon Brown. Hurry up Sat. and lets end this Fulmer tenure and announce a new HC Mon. so we can try and keep our guys and maybe land some other ones.

I could care less about a athlete who's heart is half into it. Either your commited or not. We have enough guys already like that.

only thing that seems odd to me is that, by the time Oku officially committed, he had to know that Fulmer was likely gone...

I love all these morons who think we should have kept Fulmer just to keep 3-4 recruits...

seriously, what has Fulmer done with the great recruiting classes of 05 and 07?

I mean, are we playing for SEC and national titles or just Rivals recruiting titles?

The only thing I know, that I haven't said anything about because I'm sure i'll get attacked for not posting who it is. I am in contact with one of the most prominent boosters for UT and word is the boosters are very high on Mike Leach. For what reason I do not know. Oku does not want the spread and if the recruits are somehow in the loop that could very well be the reason why he is taking other visits. I just hope that Leach's embarassing defeat to OU will wake some of the boosters up and get them off the bandwagon.

Thats sad that our boosters would get caught up in the flavor of the month coach. They should take a little more time and quit inhaling all that smoke the media is blowing up everyone's butt and look at the man's track record. Just took him nine years to have a better than average year. 2-7 against texas and 2-7 against OU should open some blind eyes as well.

I would, honestly, rather fill a roster with scrubs who get down right tore up just thinking about the opportunity to put on the orange and run through that T week after week than a potential All-World QB who thinks UT will just be his gravy train to the NFL one day.

haha...agreed.

if we can't produce top 25 teams with top 10 recruiting classes then maybe something just isn't right in the office.

Another thing, if Oku doesn't want to come here because he's afraid he won't have as gaudy a statistical career if we are running the spread then I don't want him.

Simple reason: he's not committed to the idea of being on the Tennessee Volunteer Football TEAM.

My man Leach would tell that kid one thing: "Do your job."

I can't blame any kid for waiting to see who the coach is going to be.

This is the fruit of so many Vol fans' labors. Kids like Oku, Giles, Swearenger and others believed in Coach Fulmer. They believed that he would provide them with the best environment to grow and succeed as collegiate athletes and perhaps help them take their skills to the next level. Top tier recruits are not going to risk their entire careers on an unknown quantity.

You wanted change at the head coaching position, you got change at the head coaching position and now you have to deal with the consequences.

Don't worry, I'm COMPLETELY fine with it. I'd give up every recruit in this class for Fulmer to be gone. You know why? Because going in another direction at least gives us a chance, and it is likely our next coach will be just as good of a recruiter + a much better developer of talent. With Fulmer, we know what we will be getting. Good to great recruiting classes that never materialize and more and more embarassment. I simply don't want to lose Oku. I think he is a talented kid and will have a lot of success at the collegiate level.

Give me players with pride that want to win for TN.

p.s. If we get Kiffin he can develop these players to make it to the NFL. IMO

You can recruit all the receivers and backs in the world but until they get their OL and QB play fixed it doesn't matter. I want a coach that can fix those problems before worrying about another guy running the ball 3 times a game.

OL play hasn't been as bad as some think. After watching replays of certain games, their play as been average AT WORST. Holes have been opened up for the running game. Our backs have to do a better job of seeing cutback lanes created by the zone blocking schemes we are using. Also, neither Crompton nor Stephens showed any ability to step up or move around in the pocket. If we would have had just a "pretty good" QB, we would be sitting on 8 wins right now and possibly 9 or 10 with a really good QB.

Here are the positions UT must fill in 2009: QB, LB, D Lineman, O Lineman, DBs.

The only guys we can't afford to lose are Tajh Boyd, Askew, JUCO DT's, Askew and Walls. This late in the game, I don't see anyway we could come close to replacing them if we did lose them. Boyd, Askew, and Walls would be by far the biggest loses. We got to start developing a QB for the future and Boyd could start from day one. Askew, Walls, and Gerald Williams would be the scariest LBs in the nation in 09 and 10. And if Rico don't go pro, Walls can play DT. You got Martin, Walker, Brown, and Fowlkes at DE and hopefully Dan Williams returns at DT.

Man would it have been nice to have the #1 and #2 APBs in the nation, but like we thought, we can't fire Fulmer and have his recruits too. WR and RB are not must needs in 2009. Unless Hamiliton screws the pooch, there are enough good WR/RB on the board for new coach to add some depth at our offensive skill positions. And as long as this thing doesn't drag out until January, these guys might be right back on the wagon when the new coach is announced. With the season one week from being over, Oku can only use one of his two final visits to see a game. Plus, Giles doesn't seem to be giving us up until his deadline b/c all the USC/Ole miss talk has quitened down it seems. Focusing on our needs in a rebuilding year is the key, so don't let "what mightve been" kill your optimism.

We got alot of talent at WR and RB and may be better off by letting these guys finally earn a shot. We got 3 solid RB's returning who compliment eachother well. Hardesty is the workhorse, Creer is our explosive playmaker, and Poole can be our shortdown pounder until Hardestry graduates. We probably couldn't do better than Warren and Douglas if we tried, all we got to do is start using them. Our best WR will only be a junior. If Moore, Paige, and Wilkes seize the opportunity, I expect at least one to breakout next year.

The kids who are shutting out UT completely are making a huge mistake. UT will be back on top within 3 years and putting guys in the first two rounds like the late 90's. The cupboard isn't as bare as some make it, and only a few pieces away from scary. UT is on its way back to the top.

Good luck to Giles and Oku, I will follow you and always think "what might've been." Hopefully, they will do the same.

The people saying kids need to come to UT for UT and not for the coaches need to get a grip. You can love a job or a place and not mesh personality wise with your boss. The head coach is someone who will have more impact on their day to day lives and their future than anyone else while they are on campus. If it was my son I would want it to be someone he was comfortable with. The school is great, I go there, but the coach is as if not more important than the school itself.

Yea, I was hoping we would keep either Oku or Giles, but it's not worth keeping the current regime to have them. We've been bringing in guys just like these two all decade, and what has been produced?

Maybe once the new coach is selected, they will reconsider. I mean, Giles backup choice is South Caroline, cmon! Where else is Oku looking now?

Either he knows something that we don't or he is a follower of john adams. Im guessing that latter

Another thing, Oku said he isn't buying into our coaching search, and doesn't believe in the spread. If no one in Knoxville knows who our next coach is going to be, then how on earth does he know we are going to hire a coach who employs the spread? Also, what does his inability to be a factor in any offense say about the player he is?
