TN Commit David Oku

Agreed.

Hardesty is a senior that is so fragile that he gets injured if you look at him wrong.

Creer hasn't proved anything, AND he's a junior. Regardless of whether he ever amounts to anything or not, we still need at least one stud running back in our freshman or sophomore classes. We don't have any in either one of those classes right now.

Poole is a total non-factor.

Even though we just signed one?

what is this kid waiting on? He's had all the time in the world to decide...but hey, it's his life

I agree.... the last thing we need is a nut case in the football room during this transition year....pull it and look else where....

I am just as frustrated as the next person with Oku. But why in the heck would you pull a kid's scholly because he is extending his college decision a few extra weeks?

As I said, it is frustrating, but don't let it get to you too much.

good post. no one really knows the kid's situation. i would be glad to have him in orange.

imho i think oku got overwhelmed by the whole process and wanted to just sit back and relax and think things through... then there is talk that bryce brown could be signing with us and that might scare him off(but he did commit to ut when we still had giles) but this is the best player in the class at your position... dont be impatient and bash a kid b/c you have no idea what its like... if we miss out on brown he will be in orange wish is a nice safety valve to have

I personally want both Brown and Oku. In the SEC you can never have enough backs especially with the defensive units that are now in the league.

I am starting to wonder if the late signees are just trying to see how far they can go past the “deadline” of NSD.

I think it is sad that a kid from next year's class has already said his decision will probably go past NSD. (Joyner, I think) I mean that it ridiculous!

I cannot agree with you more!

I will not be suprised if the NCAA steps in and makes some changes that will mandate signing on a specific date... actually I hope they do.

This process is fine with both Oku and Brown.

Personally, I think a lot more players may sign later in the years ahead. Some teams don't even know who their HC will be this fall. In some ways, it makes a lot of sense from some recruit's perspectives. They basically can get a lot clearer picture of who signed with whom and who is coaching where. On the flip side, players like these guys help improve a class if they sign early.

Each recruit has to do it his way. That's his right and what we really want are the best players who want to be at UT. Taking a longer period of time to decide does not mean they will be any less committed than anyone else. These guys are thinking about this as a career decision and that's what it is. Moreover, we want players who will be professional athletes. This just comes with the turf.

In Brown's case, if he had signed early, it wouldn't have been with UT. The delay is what has given us a chance.

I'd like to see both of these guys in Orange and I really see both getting plenty of playing time to prove their worth to the League.

Yea, something definitely needs to be done before this trend becomes the norm. How much publicity do these kids need? In fact, it is starting to become negative attention.

I agree with your posts but how far do think that the NCAA will allow this extended time period to continue?

I see your side on a player making the absolute best decision for himself but if every kid in the top 100 - 150 starts doing this it could turn into a complete nightmare every year.

Some kids know where they want to play (like Berry) very early. And, they are important to getting a great class as they help signal its quality and can help recruit. A lot of recruits are more than ready to get the whole process over on the first day they can sign (NSD).

The current deadline seems appropriate. While it wouldn't have worked to well for us this year, the talk about allowing an earlier signing date seems appealing. An NSD around mid-January would be nice to get the momentum going and to help eliminate the ambiguity that's inevitable in any verbal committment.
