50,000 that sounds like 100,000. Ask anyone from Tenn. who was there in '98. The Dome is a unique enviroment and has largely sucked recently....but when there is something to cheer about, it's college football's equivalent of something like Duke's Cameron Indoor Stadium....loud, fans right on top of the field, and very tough to play in for visitors.

We are actually BASKETBALL first, with our 33,000 hoop crowds that we can draw being the football equivalent to what UT and Mich. do in football, and SU also leads the nation in lacrosse attendance. But we have a good football tradition too. NYS is more pro football based than college based, though.

Thanks for yet another uninformed post that is easy to pick apart.

Top northeast program does not equal being a "national factor." And notherners will be the first to tell you that they couldn't care less about college football. Of course we would consider programs who actually have a large fanbase that cares superior to schools like Cuse. It's not a north/south bias, it's a good college football bias and there is very little good college football played in New England.

I don't know about prime but middle Tennessee certainly has many transplants from northern states. You would be surprised.

In many cases, it DOES equate to being a national factor. I would say Syracuse was a national factor in 87, 88, 91, 92, 95, 96, 97, 98, and 01....years where they were top 25, in major bowls, league champs or some combo of those things. Syracuse is not a part of New England, by the way. But yes, Pro football generally comes before college up here. That's just the way it is. That doesn't mean nobody cares or that there's never good college football played here.

Once again, we're talking about recently. And the point is that even the worst SEC teams would be strong in your conference. The fact that you can't consistently compete in the Big Least shows your relative standing in college football. Also, you seem to cling to one game against us in 1998 when we were predicted to have a down year and you played us in the first game of the season when it is normal for teams to struggle. If your team had gotten it done against us earlier in the game then you wouldn't have to whine about missed calls. Bad officiating is a staple of college sports.

IMO, Syracuse is a Top 25 all-time program and one of the worst D1 programs of the last decade. Compare UT's fall off all you want but we would never be considered one of the worst teams in ANY decade. Also, your list of current commits backs up the statement that Oku would be foolish to pick Cuse over UT. Being featured is nice but being the only weapon tends to limit your effectiveness.

Do you think todays SEC can be compared to the SEC that your team had bowl success against? Your team would be the joke of today's SEC. Also, when Cuse was playing an SEC team in a bowl game they were going up against one of the weaker SEC teams in that year when you were one of the strongest teams in the Big East. Really not a good example for today.

Well obviously Robinson was a lame duck coach all season, preventing Syracuse from having any recruiting success this year. Marrone has done a very good job of coming right in and getting some decent committs, flipping a USF and L'Ville commit. But when you have a lame duck coach and are coming off 4 bad years, it's tough...this year is a wash, but Marrone has done a nice job of salvaging it. I guarantee next years class will be a different story.

Syracuse is an alright place to be. It is not really comparable with Tennessee's natural beauty IMHO but it is nice for sure. Some great parks nearby as well as close to Canada....which is....er, being close to Canada, lol. Many people in the south hear New York and immeidately associate the entire state with the city. There are many small towns & rural pockets up that way that are actually just as country as our small towns. Some of those thar yankees are actually pretty darn nice & friendly too....notice I said some because no doubt it's still yankee land and proper manners are still a few years away.

So good luck to this kid......wherever he may choose. He could be a big fish in a small pond or a big fish in the best conference in America. I wish him well either way.

Actually, over 50 million visitors a year to the Smokies says that it is a pretty popular destination. We may not be like FL but at least we aren't basically in Canada like Syracuse. There's a reason why upstate NY is so sparsely populated.

Many UT posters have made good points and I think there has been a lot of good discussion. However, you have struggled all day long and I think i've pretty much owned you as well as a couple other uninformed posters. Are you always this out of place on here?

Actually, all of NY is a part of New England even if you guys don't like to say it. Shouldn't you know that? Lack of interest=decreased value of play. But wait, I'm sure it's great football it's just that nobody really cares enough to pay attention.

But Oku was in Syracuse last weekend. How could that be Why would such a top recruit who mighty Tenn. wants, even look at that yankee school? It's unlikely, but imagine the meltdown if he DOES change his mind and go to SU?

There wouldn't be a meltdown, you moron. That's what everybody's trying to tell you. If any recruit we wanted went to SU we'd say 'man that sucks, good luck to him' and be on our way. We aren't basing our future on this one kid, which it seems like you guys are...even though all Oku did was take a visit. But hey, good luck with that.

I don't doubt that Marrone will help your program a lot and you guys will be able to recruit better. That said, a truly good program will always have recruits in the system who are committed to the university.

If Oku goes to Syracuse, it would be because he's had a relationship with Drayton and because he's been persuaded that he could play early, which is important to kids. But assuming he pans out and in fact is a good back, he could go to 30 programs that are decent and better (and warmer) than syracuse and play early. I've got nothing against the Cuse except for their bubble stadium. They are never good--think of that inflated trash bag that was the Minnesota baseball "stadium" for many years--the aptly named "homerdome."
