TN Commit David Oku

Wow. I'm glad we struck a nerve with you to come on here and register just to argue with us. Too bad your not too bright, but hey we have had bigger idiots than you on here in the past few months. I love people who think internet pissing matches are somehow relevant.

"You're", not "your". When YOU'RE insulting someone for being "not too bright", you should probably be on top of things like that.

I'm not trying to have pissing matches, and I haven't engaged in any namecalling the way you are(unless homer is considered namecalling). I read a lot of fairly ignorant statements on Syracuse football, and felt like responding.

It's funny...some of you were bragging about how many UT fans are posting on Syracuse boards over this situation, but when I show up here to do the same thing,it's because you "struck a nerve". Maybe the fact that one of your recruits is wavering and looking at lowly(in your minds, apparantly) Syracuse instead of the best program in the history of sports(also in your minds, apparantly) has struck a nerve?

For the record, all of this started over people saying that a current recruit would have little to no reason to pick Syracuse over UT. No current recruit is going to care about what you did in the 70's. What they will care about is the fact that basically no one of significance has gone to the NFL in the 00's (besides Dwight Freeney) while we have a consistent track record of putting players in the league, your stadium is a hole while ours is regarded as one of the greatest atmospheres in the country, and your weather is horrid while ours looks like So Cal by comparison. Maybe Oku will pick Syracuse, but if he did it would be because of our former coach, not your storied program.

2.

If you want to pass Syracuse off as a powerhouse program that routinely puts players in the NFL over their history like UT, you'll run into resistance from any fan wearing UT's shade of orange.

I have specifically NOT done that. I've just pointed out that Syracuse has some pretty good tradition of their own and 4 years don't suddenly make us Duke, anymore than a few bad years(for you) make Tennessee a mediocre program.

I know SU is down lately (sucks lately) but I do recall them being consistently competitive under CPP..... I remember thinking SU was making a mistake by canning him.

Anyway, IMO, SU football "program" (excluding recent "teams") is the SEC equivalent of USCjr, Ole Miss, Arky and Kentucky..... Flame if you must but those 4 teams are usually competitive in the SEC and would be consistently competitive in the Big East.

No, some people just don't want a recruit to throw away his career in a rebuilding project like is ahead for your coach.

I loved the English lesson thanks. I think it's time for me to stop feeding the trolls. Ignore time.

You summed it up perfectly. The only reason Oku even took a vist to Syracuse is because of Drayton...a coach UT let go....not because of Syracuse. I hope Oku stays a Vol. But if he doesn't we will be fine and I would wish him well.

Although I do not agree with DWood, I can appreciate his passion..... I must also admit that he is much more educated and tolerable than any Bammer and most Cocks I have encountered! He would have been banned from tidefans at around post # 2!!!!

The 70's? Syracuse sucked in the 70's. If you're going to insult us, at least know about us. That's why I'm here.

The 90's weren't THAT long ago. Players know McNabb and Freeney and Harrison and Bulluck. Yes our recruiting and NFL production has dropped off badly in the last 5 years, though there are still some SU players contributing. David Tyree, Anthony Smith, Tanard Jackson to name a few.

Who cares about weather? If weather is such a big factor then Michigan, ND, Penn State, etc. should never get a good recruit. Frankly, if Syracuse is too cold for a football player, then I wouldn't want the wuss anyway. Put a coat on and handle it!

The Dome is well liked by players and CAN be the loudest place in football. Obviously hasn't been recently, but when we start winning again it will be. It being a "hole" is your biased opinion, I think it's great and can be a huge homefield advantage.

Nice shots at SU. yeah, there's NO reason to go there other than "your former coach" huh? This is the type of arrogance and ignorance that I'm talking about. Obviously Drayton is what got him to visit, but he's not the only positive thing about SU.

SU is a good academic school, with a good athletic name, good tradition, improving facilities, in arguably the most winnable BCS league, and where Oku could step in instantly and be the face of the program. Don't act like there are no reasons to go to SU. He could go to UT, get lost in the shuffle, and get whupped by Florida for 4 years. See I can spin things too.

Yes, that's it. You all have so much concern for Oku's fortunes. give me a break. You want him in creamsicle, and can't stand the thought of losing a recruit to a Yankee program you see as inferior. Period.

Maybe he'd be "throwing his career away" in rebuilding mode at UT? Just a thought from the otherside of things.

You are correct there are other reasons to go to SU. The bottom line and the point some are making is that Oku showed no interest until Drayton, who recruited him, and left UT. No Drayton no interest from Oku.

A player like Oku doesn't get lost in the shuffle unless he is injured or an outright bust.

See bold above.

Thank you. Whether we get Oku or not, we WILL be back and will be a top northeast program and national factor again.

The way things have gone recently, just being involved with recruits like Oku is a step in the right direction.

:eek:k:

1. I agree.

2. I also agree, but if our current stature devalue's us so much, so does yours.

3. Also note, that Tennessee benefitted greatly from the SEC refs calling several 15 yard "equipment violation" penalty's on SU(a call I have never seen before or since), not to mention the questionable PI call on an uncatchable pass on 4th down. That was a great football game and Syracuse went toe to toe with a team that won the championship, and Tenn. was VERY fortunate to get those calls on the road(and they WERE SEC refs), which usually doesn't happen.

Do you think having a down year in the Big East is the same as a down year in the SEC? UT at their worst would dominate in the Big East and be a perennial conference championship contender with BCS berths. Also, we had a winning season last year and went to the SEC championship and a New Years Day bowl. Do you think Cuse would even come close to sniffing an SECC? No, they would be on the same level as Vandy, KY or Miss St.

I agree, Drayton is what got him to look at SU. And when you're coming off a horrible stretch like SU, you need connections like that to get back up and get going again. But there are other positives to the school and program.

As for Oku lost in the shuffle at UT, it was actually a compliment to UT's ability to get top notch recruits. Though I agree, Oku looks like the real deal who could play a big role in anyone's offense. Though isn't it possbile, that he could be a contributor at certain schools who might have other RB's on that level, while he could be the face of the offense/program and do it all at other schools with less talent and fewer playmakers?

All I know is that the Big East has done well in it's BCS games recently, and that when Syracuse was a perennial bowl team they beat their share of SEC teams and other top notch programs around the country....in the late 80's through the 90's Syracuse beat LSU and Georgia in bowl games as well as Ohio State and Colorado, tied with Auburn in one, and in the regular season beat Florida, Texas, as well as other top programs like Michigan, Miami, Auburn etc. From 87-01, Syracuse could go toe to toe with anyone in the country, including any SEC team and yes there were seasons where SU could have competed for the SEC title. Heck, you beat us by one point in your national title year, and needed a questionable 4th down PI call to keep your game winning drive alive. And in the whole scheme of things, Syracuse is far above Kentucky, Vandy, or Miss. State as a football program. Give me a break. Oh yeah, a mediocre Syracuse team beat Kentucky in a bowl one of those years too, but we didn't care about that one because nobody(except you guys I guess) put any importance on beating kentucky in football. SEC fans are hilarious.

You are right...we would love to see him in Tennessee orange for sure. But if he chooses not to come to UT we will be ok. For the record I absolutely loved what Syracuse did to Notre Dame. It was awesome. I like your passion for your school....we at UT certainly understand passion for your school. Good luck to Syracuse next season.

Facts make you tired huh? Good. There was a time where I was getting a little bored of watching Syracuse beat SEC schools in bowl games, as it was pretty predictable. I like some suspense to games, you know? But I would like to get back to those days.

Hey Syracuse is awesome in Lacrosse. You know, that sport that is way more popular than Football. And they have the Carrier Dome. That awesome spectacle of a stadium that seats an amazing 50,000 people. Wow! Talk about BIG TIME football. And they are a member of the greatest conference in history, The Big East, which is such a player in the NC picture every year. I can see why they can be such an appealing draw to any BIG TIME recruit.
