'20 TN ATH Reggie Grimes (Oklahoma commit)

They are "our" opinions. Just like recruiting services have their opinions. Funny thing, both are wrong quite often.

With that being said. I don't pretend to know more than they do. I just repeated what a HS coach said about Grimes during the summer. And, I have seen him several times and was not impressed. The two 3 star guys at BGA are better (IMO) than the #1 ranked Grimes.

Ok I have held back for long enough. See the thing here is you're saying real silly stuff. The difference between Grimes and kids at BGA is they still have to earn offers while he has all the offer letters in his possession. The problem here is many of you don't get "it". In reality we want to see a kid jump off the screen when watching them play, but in some instances a kid might back down for business purposes. Well in Grimes has all the offers he needs. Whether commitable or not he was offered. Mark my words and hear me clearly when whomever signs this kid they're getting a supreme athlete. He does make plays just check the hghlights from last weeks playoff game. The damn kid played Rb, Fb, TE, H-back, Lb, and DE. When referring to Maleik Gray there is NO comparison here. Maleik simply would make ZERO plays in a game and have zero catches as a Wr. What happened with Gray was the fact that he worked hard in MS, also he was bigger than most everyone and we trained him. All the accolades went to his head then he stopped working and became very average. There was one game Lavergne played I think Blackman and they ran the ball the entire game. He started at Wr and played Lb and SS. The kid did not make one single tkl. The is no such game you can pull up on Grimes like this. The only kid in the mid TN area who plays Lb who is as athletic with talent and ability is JR Colson from Ravenwood.

Look I’m just saying if you’re thinking fans are ignorant bc they have a different opinion from “professional recruiting services” that get paid to evaluate for a living, it’s just stupid. 247 and Rivals get paid by the fans not college football programs, they pose as professional evaluators but they have as much merit as some “ignorant fans”. Now they have kind of learned to hedge their bets by adjusting rankings bc of offers from schools that traditionally get kids to the league but they’re still pretty clueless as evaluators. You do realize universities actually have professional recruiting services that they get evaluations from, ones that get paid well for evaluating.

You're correct to a certain extent because some schools do pay these services to aid in the high school recruiting department by sending evals and film they have obtained or done themselves.

Ok, I need more clarification on what this means.

Thanks.

some kids solidify their status as a top recruit and play not to get injured. Many worry about if I have this offer or that offer and I tear/break something will school A or school C still take me as I have surgery, rehab, and possibly come to school and not make an immediate impact.

They don't even play the same position. Whitehead was told he could play RB and thus why he's said to be favoring UT.
I knew we were recruiting Whitehead at RB but USC is recruiting both for linebacker. Yeah Grimes is going to be more of a edge rusherbut missing on Whitehead would open up another spot in USC class. With how USC admin is acting I think there will be a lot of open spots in USCs recruiting class after the Clemson game.

I don't understand how you can get on the football field and not play 100%. Doing anything less is how you are going to get hurt. Obivously different levels but look at the Dolphins, they try to tank every day of the week but Sunday. You might be able to walk through the motions in baaketball or baseball, I just don't see how you can in football.

I get all that. But, I stand firm in what my eyes tell me. Not on a highlight film, but in person. Again, I don't pretend to be a scout, but I do trust coaches who DO scout him and coach against him.

If he does come to Knoxville, I hope he blows up, makes All-American, and doesn't "back down for business purposes."

Gotcha. Thanks.

Mmm...sorry dog. Didn’t change my opinion.

Worst case he is soft and transfers this time next year, best case Pruitt unlocks his potential. We can afford to take him this year because other than 4 or so spots this is a "depth" class. It's fine if he's not in the two deep in year one.

Why USCJR? Muschamp is safe because he beat UGA but another year like this and he's gone. This one is a head scratcher.
apparently the questions about his performance are enough to cause doubt at a lot of programs that have looked at him...not too many programs are that hot and heavy after him, except USCe......

Apologies for being critical of Grimes. Don't mean to disrespect the kids you put a lot of time into.

Yes he does make more plays than Maliek Gray. And he's shown good awareness and willingness on both sides of the ball. But for his skillset I would expect him to absolutely dominate. He hasn't yet...

I'm looking forward to when Ravenwood clashes with Maryville in Rd 4.

Then if they get past them, they'll have to deal with the Whitehaven trio in State Title games. For the record, all 3 Whitehaven LBs are better than Grimes...right now. Just my opinion.

My point is that he will have opportunities real soon to show how good he can be. And I hope he does.

This is how it appears. Not that upset he didn't come to TN. Would have been excited for his potential if he came.

yeah, this kid's recruitment has been really strange. i still think it's hard to imagine that he wont' be a good player. but we're not the only ones that have questions about him....at some point you either trust your process or you don't.

so i hope he does well, wish it could/would be here.....but if we're not sure, we're not sure, and i'm definitely not in on going after guys just because they're highly rated TN kids.....this staff has a profile and if he doesn't fit it...so be it.
