seems awful close to the season to cancel. regardless of ideological differences anyone not recognizing that football is king in the south, then making THAT decision will ultimately not be around long

There’s some other stuff going on down there. I have friends with kids there and they are trouble kids, not academically strong. They are the teens parents need out of the house and away from their siblings so they are willing to pay 60k to have them go live on campus 30 minutes down the road at the age of 15.

Yeah it’s sad to see these parents drop these kids off at 7th grade and leave them - some very screwed up kids there for sure.

Just talked with the coach and the way they went about this is shameful. They basically stownwalled every boy that wanted to come in and play. Didn’t give financial aid or denied them completely. They basically set the coach up by stopping all support.
Meanwhile media trying to spin this as if allowing for a one time transfer has already ruined a program smh

Going to a place like Oakland could really help him if he’s wanting to play receiver. I would imagine they have a solid QB and I’m sure he’ll get plenty of targets. Who knows, maybe by early October he’s shown enough improvement with his hands to where Heup and Pope decide they’re willing to give him the chance

Oakland doesn't really throw the ball

Intel: “Tennessee has been buzzing at the top with the in-state blue-chipper for most of his recruitment, but do not sleep on the Commodores in this one. Vanderbilt is recruiting Wyatt harder at this point and has more flexibility with his fit in the defensive scheme.” — Sam Spiegelman, Rivals National Analyst

Move on, IMO. Money better spent elsewhere instead of a kid who doesn't want to play the position we want to play him. Just a recipe for wasted money that could otherwise go to landing elite talent elsewhere.

There has to be a reason the coaches are still recruiting the kid.

Yep.

Even if we did sign him and he’s not satisfied with his role here, he’d transfer out any way.

Not point in wasting time on this one imo.

I disagree with moving on, and would mention its not like he’s quoted (to my knowledge) as being entirely against playing elsewhere, just that he has his preferences, and different teams are projecting him all over from wide receiver to safety to edge, so easy to see how he thinks what he wants should be attainable. Every kid thinks they know what they want. Most just want a shot to prove themselves. He has a good relationship with our coaches and the people around him that are Tennessee supporters, so I say sign him and let him figure it out when he gets here. If he has a level head on his shoulders, when he’s not getting closer to seeing the field at his position of choice, he’ll realize the coaches are right about his potential and switch to the position they see him performing best at to give him the greatest ultimate potential of a career in football. Is that not worth the one year risk when it comes to elite athletes?

But he doesn’t have a natural position.

The coaches like his potential but isn’t promising him anything to sign him.

If that scares him off then so be it.
He would be an incredibly safety. He’s not like those athletes destined to play offense that don’t have a position(Dee Beckwith). He will actually get physical, I hope we sign him. Need kids like this when you travel to Athens, Columbus etc.
