seems awful close to the season to cancel. regardless of ideological differences anyone not recognizing that football is king in the south, then making THAT decision will ultimately not be around long

There’s some other stuff going on down there. I have friends with kids there and they are trouble kids, not academically strong. They are the teens parents need out of the house and away from their siblings so they are willing to pay 60k to have them go live on campus 30 minutes down the road at the age of 15.

Yeah it’s sad to see these parents drop these kids off at 7th grade and leave them - some very screwed up kids there for sure.

Just talked with the coach and the way they went about this is shameful. They basically stownwalled every boy that wanted to come in and play. Didn’t give financial aid or denied them completely. They basically set the coach up by stopping all support.
Meanwhile media trying to spin this as if allowing for a one time transfer has already ruined a program smh

Maybe Nico will follow the Flag Football 🏈 path.

He looks to have that skill set.

Just saying.
This is why I think Tennessee could really surprise people this year. Folks are acting like we are going to experience some big drop off in QB play because of the loss of Nico. They’re comparing what they think our QB will do this year with what folks thought Nico would do this year. That’s not the comparison. We made the playoff with Nico‘s poor performance in 2024 and if our QB play this year is merely as good as Nico’s was last year, with this schedule, we have a good chance to make the playoff again. But I think QB play can be very much improved.

I agree with this.

I'd just add we also lost a lot on the defensive line so depth should be affected, tho I think front line talent is still really good. Also not knowing exactly what kind of shape McCoy comes back in is a question.

Then you also lost a stalwart center, SEC player of the year at rb...

So there are more questions than just QB.

I do think this is the first time in a long time I think we have good answers coming in. But you just don't know, till you know.

Anxiously excited/cautiously optimistic... However you want to say it.

If the QB hits tho..... Look out. If QB busts... Uh oh.

Going to a place like Oakland could really help him if he’s wanting to play receiver. I would imagine they have a solid QB and I’m sure he’ll get plenty of targets. Who knows, maybe by early October he’s shown enough improvement with his hands to where Heup and Pope decide they’re willing to give him the chance

I think our D has the potential to be better than last year overall. We’re gonna be tough up front. Our end play has tremendous potential. Linebacker play should be improved as well as secondary play. But you’re right, until we see it on the field we just don’t know. Excited about the season, I think the conference is wide open. Should be some exciting games this year. GBO

Oakland doesn't really throw the ball

While I mostly agree, the one difference is Fl and Al are on the road. Reverse those 2 games and I would 100% agree with you..

True, but Tennessee could lose both of those games and still “surprise.” Most pundits have picked Tennessee around 9 or 10 in the SEC, so anything more than 8 wins surpasses those expectations.

Heupel has been a HC for 8 years. He has won more than 8 games all but 2. His winning percentage is just below 75, like 74.7%

Phillip Fulmer, CFB HoF, was a .745% granted he coached longer. Id argue the SEC wasn't as tough top to bottom then.

Just by the numbers, Josh has a greater than 75% chance to win over 8 games, his 9th year.

How many teams in CFB would take that?

Right off the bat, Florida cant afford Saban.

Saban would go straight into an OSU type BC ratio scenario. I dont see him wanting to assemble a staff, at this point.
Florida could probably afford him, but that is beside the point. The article says that he is predicted to go there when no one quoted in the article predicts him to go there.

On a scale of 1-10
If our QB play goes up from a 4-5 to 6-7 👀
If it goes to a 7-8+ woah Nellie 👊🏻🍊

Honestly, I(we) all saw to many bad decisions, bad passes and really just plain mind numbing play from Nico last year. I’ll be the first to admit I tried to justify his mistakes by being first year starter, young guy learning the ropes, it’s the SEC, so lots harder, all the excuses.
Take away the cupcake games stats and 4-5 may a little to generous.
Its a new season, and I’m so ready to get started👊🏻🍊
