TN a likely win for SC

A team 2 years removed from a loss to Wyoming has little room to complain about being on a probable win list for South Carolina when they have home field.
New coaches, new players, yada, yada, yada, blah, blah, blah...

I could see why Tn could definitely be in the probable win for the gamecocks this year looking at the TN situation going into the season. With that said early play for both teams could change the optism for that game for both teams. I do believe the SC quarterback play will be better and they do have some excellent receivers and RBs

Sums up my thoughts exactly, except I would at they have a very good defense as well.

Lets put it this way...the stars have aligned for the Cocks to have the best year in football they have had since joining the SEC. Of course it'll still be 2nd best in the East but........

We lost to UGA by 12 in '08 and beat them by 26 in '09. Home field makes a difference. Sometimes all the difference. Our last trip to Columbia certainly didn't end well.
UGA lost their two biggest playmakers after the 08 season though.

Most people around here (upstate SC) that are USC fans really believe 9 wins is not only possible but probable.

Pretty bad example here. If I'm not mistaken UGA was pre-season number 1 going into the 08 season. They were also considerably more talented than both the UT 08 squad that they played, or the UGA group was in 09, especially at quarterback, running back, and on defense.

UT on the other hand had an atrocious season that got the head coach of 17 years fired. We would have lost that game by similar margins in Neyland.

Your statement infers that UT beating UGA in 09 was potentially all location, and not talent differences, coaching differences, or team mentality differences. There are so many differences between the two teams, on both sides, in 09 as opposed to 2008 it truly isn't worth comparison.

I agree playing SC at SC is a bit of a different beast, see 08 vs 09 UT/SC games for example. The stadium was electric at the game last season and I believe it had a significant impact, as the location did the 08 SC game when it was played in Columbia. But your comparative example (like several of your others) was not very good. Next time if you want to use the home/away argument about the differences in scores between two schools, use the 08 UT/SC game vs the 09 UT/SC game, that more accurately represents what you're trying to say.

They say the same thing every year over there and they always do the same thing. Start out 4-0 or 5-0, hell they started 6-0 a couple of seasons ago and every year when they hit the meat of the SEC schedule they go down hill FAST. Until they are beating us on a regular basis, which will never happen, then I would say you could put us in their "probable win" column. Otherwise, I disagree with us being a probable win for them, in Columbia or not.

I'm reminded of how silly we thought UCLA people were, thinking they had a chance to stay within 3 scores of UT, both times...

They were silly if UT played a half decent game either time. UT had to come up with inventive ways to lose both games. Didn't we collect four first half interceptions in the first game? Daniel Lincoln and the great Chavis decided to let a third string QB play a scrimmage and give UCLA the win in the second half and OT. In the game last year Crompton returned the interception favor and then Kiffin made a questionable goal line decision and we lost. UCLA still sucks. Alas, so does UT. But The Gamecocks are fools if they believe their own hype. They should never count a win against UT before the game is played. Kind of like Kentucky...

One good thing about this it'll be a good year to make ridiculous bets with the cocks.

Things may be different for them this year. They could easily come out of the chute and be 2-3 by early October and looking at playing Arkansas and taking trips to Florida and to Clemson. They could easily beat us and still go 6-6.

I said that without even looking at their schedule, I knew they had a tough one though. Without a doubt they could go 6-6 and still beat us, I was just bringing up their recent trends. I guess what I was saying is that until they are beating us 3 and 4 years in a row and putting a couple of streaks together on us, I don't feel like they should say we're a probable win. I know we're in a down year this year but I don't think that we're going to be that bad unless the injury bug nails us hard this year lol

They are probably going to beat us...it shouldn't be that surprising that we're mentioned with Kentucky since we were picked by the media to finish behind them...

Looking at their schedule, I see 7-5 for them if they can upset Georgia or Arkansas at home. Next to impossible to see 9 wins out of this:

Southern Miss
Georgia
Furman
@Auburn
Alabama
@Kentucky
@Vanderbilt
Tennessee
Arkansas
@Florida
Troy
@Clemson

Looks like 5 losses in there for sure-----and that's counting UT as a w for them. 9-----rotf.

You know what? I think the Vols will surprise a lot of people this year. We may not win every game, but I predict we will see the team come together as the year goes on. I expect even that they may surprise coming out of the gate. I am looking forward to the Vol walk before the UT Martin game, especially since it won't be so hot!
