Time for a Defensive Upgrade: Why Tennessee Should Hire Ron Roberts as Defensive Coordinator

When a play is called we don't know each players responsibility so we have no clue rather he is out of position because of his decision or the play call. So stop
There’s no “we”. It’s easily seen watching film and where defenders go at the snap for their responsibilities. When 4 defenders turn and run 10 yards back at the snap, they all didnt mess up. Maybe that’s something you can’t see, so watch with somebody who does and ask for their help. The only people who need to stop and sthu are the excuse makers for sorry ass defensive calls and blaming players for allowing a 99 yard drive at 10YPP. Must’ve missed their assignment every time huh.

Offense scored 20

Offense gave up 9.

To win the game the defenses needed to hold Bama to less than 11 points.

Volnation response: Fire time Banks!

Makes 0 sense

Whose job it is to ensure the players execute? Whose job is it to recruit the type of players we need? The fact we’re getting this level of play on defense in year 5 is inexcusable. I was a big Banks defender all the way up until this season.
Although I do agree the same can be and should be said about the offense. Going 3 and out in 38 seconds in year 5 is inexcusable as well.

We don't know we can only assume so stop acting like you're more knowledgeable than me or anyone that doesn't agree

So Banks wasn’t the DC last year?

Was Banks the DC the first three years of Heupel's tenure? Was he the DC during Hooker's time as qb that wasted one of the best offenses in UT's history? Is he not the DC this year? Nah, let's point to the one season they performed well against most teams. Maybe he will field a competent defense in 2-3 more years

Those who continue to support and make excuses for the defensive staff remind me of the old rule for Defense Attorneys. When the evidence is weak, attack the evidence. When the witnesses are weak, attack the witnesses. When the law is weak, attack the law. When none of it is weak, attack everything and hope something sticks.

This whole debate is starting to sound like Coach Fulmer's "equity" speech before he got "retired".

And smells about the same, as well.

Common sense and math. Thats all. Watch where defenders drop at the snap. If they are dropping in unison, its not their lack of execution to blame. We hightailed it to our zone areas, as we were obviously asked to do or every player wouldn’t have done it.
Can’t blame player execution when you put them 15 yards away from the receiver on 3rd and short.
Can’t blame player execution when you leave a backup safety in man with no help on an nfl slot.
And you can’t blame players when we are still looking to the sideline for a call as the other team is snapping.
Players are also confused too often, which is obvious during and after the play. If multiple players are still confused about what to do coming into November, it’s not their fault either. That’s coaching.

That's not true at all. You're not seeing the entire picture. If not for the defense we lose at M State. If not for the offensive struggles we beat Arkansas by 21 at least. If not for the offense pre snap penalty and terrible decision making by Heupel we probably beat Georgia. If not for the offense we are in a 4th quarter game with Bama
All true , but an elite QB cancels many negatives and makes things happen. aguilar played great against Georgia , but the defense couldn’t make a stop. The bama loss came down to the 14 point swing pick 6 , it can be blamed on Aguilar‘s lack of zip and making the decision to pass. heupel made that call. The defense could not stop Alabama and gave up a 99 drive . Bottom line , an elite defense wins these games .
