Tim Banks doesn't recruit anyone. Good grief. I can't even discuss something so stupid with youTim Banks has absolutely nothing to do with the pass rush. He doesn’t coach them and he didn’t recruit them so I am not sure what point you are attempting to make unless you believe the DC tells them when to sack someone lol
You actually watched the game, I think we have some that look at the score and make wild judgements. All but 1 touchdown came on short field drives. Yes there rushing attack is good, but like you said our D had 5 sacks and 2 touchdowns and we stepped up against their running game down the stretch. That you for your common sense logic post, it’s refreshing around here. GBOThis is what I’ve been repeatedly responding to the “defense sucks” posts. We basically spotted them 21 points on a short field. If the final was 34-13 and the defense was responsible for 14 of our points we’d be praising them right now.
Bothwell gave us fits on the edge but he’s a stud and that was their gameplan. We did however completely shut down and sack Shapen 5 times.
My comment was not intended to say Chavis shouldn't have left. Just that you can apply the same comments about firing defensive coordinators to any coach we have through every era of VN postersI remember when LSU paid him a bunch of money as DC after Tennessee fired which doesn’t exactly prove your point that he wasn’t washed up
Defense was very up and down. We struggled against the run until we loaded the box. They also scored 14 pts and a game ending stand in short yardage against a damn good offense. Most of the criticism is fair and part of the business when you work at a place like Tennessee, but let’s not lose sight of the big picture.
This is the first year where his defense hasn’t improved from the previous year. Also, 3 of MSU’s 4 TD drives were 30 yards or less. Did I get frustrated with our defense yesterday? Yes. But I still think he’s really, really good.

LSU made him the highest paid DC in college at the time. Then A&M lured him away with a raise if I remember correctly. Chavis was a great DC but damnation some of those third and a mile conversions took years off Vol fans livesI remember when LSU paid him a bunch of money as DC after Tennessee fired which doesn’t exactly prove your point that he wasn’t washed up
Yeah OK, but our offense is 3rd in scoring, and you know they are on the field far less than the defense. That being said, we have had 2 real tests in our season so far. Arky is a wounded animal, so we best not be looking past them, but it SHOULD be a lopsided VOL win.Awesome hand picked defensive stats:
Tennessee ranks 108th in pts allowed which is by far the most important stat and 76th in 3rd down defense which is probably the 2nd most important stat.
You literally think Banks has no hand in reciting anyone. Sorry that is dumb. I'm sure he hands those duties off to some random assistant and hopes they get someone goodThat’s a great argument you are making that you can’t defend or back up but continue crying about a DC that isn’t very good whether you agree with it or not. He didn’t recruit or develop Pierce and McCoy was a portal addition. His position coaching is likely one of the biggest flaws on the team at safety

In fairness, we dropped a walk in TD as wellHe’s far from the worst and I get agitated with him but to be fair he doesn’t really have all the pieces this year. We desperately need atleast one of our corners back. We are very very fortunate that miss st player dropped the walk in Td. Teams are going to continue to exploit that this season.
fIrE bAnKs!
Yeah the coordinator has nothing to do with the pass rush... Ok crazy personTim Banks has absolutely nothing to do with the pass rush. Some of it is skewed by the fact that we had a huge lead in 2 games and emptied the bench in the second half of them games. Yes we have had some lapses on D but it is skewed quite a bit. Had we kept starters in the game in those blowouts the stats would not be that bad. Maybe not super but nowhere near as bad. But going to the bench in them situations was exactly the right thing to do.GBO109th - Points Allowed per Game

His numbers are not that great! "But they are skewed because of our up-tempo" Maybe, but they shouldn't be as skewed as this. This is bad defense. Not saying go and fire him, but the criticism is warranted.
Yeah we’ve got a lot of young guys on defense who are having to step up and make an impact earlier maybe than expected.IMO, Banks receives a lot of unnecessary criticism. Last year's D was elite. And we lost a lot of key pieces up front. Right now we have a DL that is still elite at pass rush, but hasn't quite gotten there in disrupting the run. MSU putting up 200+ is not a good look. We're still hurting for depth and quality in the secondary. If we can get McCoy back maybe we can play an extra LB instead of a nickel back or move a safety up in run support. But hopefully with some growth the front four simply gets better against the run.
I'm not in any way suggesting we have an incredible defense or don't need to improve some things. Point is trying to fire Tim Banks is not the solution. He's proven he can put together a solid defense. But it's a new year and we have a new set of people.109th - Points Allowed per Game

Banks is the reason we went to the playoffs last year. He kept us in games when our offense couldn't scoreMost of the criticism is fair and part of the business when you work at a place like Tennessee, but let’s not lose sight of the big picture.
