If you think he had a lot to work with this season you are delusional…we have one sec caliber LB. Maybe one corner and no safeties..d line was pretty good just need more quality bodies for depth. We need big bodies and ball hogs..

Most thought our defense would yield about 2 or 3 wins this season. I think we exceeded that. Defense slowed most teams enough to keep us ahead.
Use the portal and build back better.

Id like to see Banks have time to recruit his own players. The portal devastated TN in 2021. This is going to be extremely difficult because Banks was late on the 2022 class at UT. This fan base is not going to give a coordinator 3 years to turn the ship around and shouldn’t. He’s got to show improvement on the field in 2022.

I hope there’s a train load of defensive talent heading to Knoxville, otherwise I’m afraid you’re going to be very disappointed.

Sad fact is our “defensive guru” head coach the previous 3 yrs bought a couple of LBs and that’s about it. He left a very thin & weak roster.

I've always been of the mind that the hfc deserves to pick who he wants as assistants since he's the one who's going to sink or swim based in large part on who fills those roles. Given the timing of Hoople's hire and the shape the Vols program has been in, I doubt Hoops got all of his first choices. I am sure there are places he would upgrade today if he could. Whether or not that includes Banks, I have no idea.

I am sick of changing coaches every 5 minutes. Let the HC decide who he needs running the D when they actually have some depth.

Yes get out of this cycle of firing staffs every 18 months and let the coaches recruit and coach. I know many of you guys enjoy off season coaching searches and are amateur personnel men but follow who Oklahoma and LSU hire and let our guys recruit and prepare for 2022. Yes and save some money from paying off fired coaches.

Yup. Banks deserves another year. But we really need to see much better stopping power next season. I don’t mind getting burned on the passing game sometimes, but that defense Thursday couldn’t have stopped a runny nose with a pallet of Kleenex

Give him time. I remember Chavis giving up like 62 points to Florida in his first year as D.C. Also who can forget the 70+ points that his defense yielded to West Virginia. Both in their prime were excellant DCs. My only concern is recruiting. Garner can recruit lineman but can Banks recruit linebackers and secondary players.

This is predictable from someone like you.

It may be the case that Banks "needs to go". But right now, they need to sit down and figure out what was wrong. There are problems and it goes way past talent. Teams with less talent played better on D. Some if not all of those changes could not be made during the season. They now have 3 months until spring ball to figure some things out.
