Tim Banks is gone

Everyone says just throw the money at someone. I would like to hire someone that actually wants the job not just hired for the money.
Like quality players, quality coaches cost money. They are hired guns who will do fine wherever they are but it takes money to get a good one to make a move.

For those who are naming defensive coaches that need to stay, keep in mind a top name DC will want full control of those decisions. The only way you dictate who stays and who goes is if you promote from within.

I could see us sticking with him and dropping the S&C coach and OL coach before this, but I also felt his scheme was really bad and needed to change. We and he lucked out last year with a weak schedule, but this year showed its face. I wouldn't be surprised if they promoted our LB coach with his experience and with the way Josh Heupel works:
William Inge owns over two decades of collegiate experience and has coached in back-to-back College Football Playoffs. He was officially announced as Tennessee’s linebackers coach on Feb. 21, 2024, and enters his second season on Rocky Top in 2025.

Inge has served as either defensive coordinator or co-defensive coordinator for 10 seasons, including tenures at Washington (2022-23),

Other than being a VFL and coaching in the NFL.What credentials does Mayo have being a DC at the premier collegiate level.Take his orange and white gridiron past away and how many would still want him?

Why would it be jokes?

His defensive coaching ability was good enough to land him a head coaching job in the SEC. And he had some great defenses at Kentucky over the years as well.
We averaged 41PPG (including OOC) and hung 56 on the mildcats. His defenses are built on the offense controlling the clock. He’s struggled to adapt. He lost the locker room and culture last year. And bad blood between Heup and the Stoops.

I’m sure he wouldn’t be the worst, but would be less excited about him than keeping Banks..

Whoever we hire, please let it be someone who can disrupt an offense play after play. Someone that rival offenses dread playing because of scheme, pressure, and ingenuity. Too many long, time-consuming drives under Banks’ watch that resulted in scores. His defense was good against mediocre, outmatched teams, but against SEC level teams, his numbers were pretty pedestrian, even bad far too often. Bring the heat!

That player, a head case and underachiever for his gifts, was HIGHLY sought after by lots of schools. We got him with money.

That he...... or a coach who is highly sought after...... doesn't pan out is part of sports.

It doesn't change the facts: highly sought after talent in any field requires more money than other talent.

Like stock, past performance is no guarantee of future gains.
