Do you honestly think this team could pull that off again right now? This team and staff have degraded mightily since the Florida game....and not just because of injuries. A team is judged on the season, and Florida had a better one. One game doesn't change that fact.

What do you mean they "kicked the tires"? Butch inquired about the job or vice versa? That part didn't make a lot of sense.

Interpret these statements as an agent was checking around for a bigger contract/payday to pitch to Butch. Purdue is so bottom of the B1G right now, that they might actually throw money at Jones after being rebuked by other coaches. The agent looking for a fee exchanged some communiques with Butch and nothing came of it.

I don't think it's the worst possible thing to happen if he leaves today. It would be a jump start for the next round of coaches to have a shot at glory. This program reminds me Spurrier at SC now and the years to come. This team was his identity proven. He's average coach at best.
