There are no quality assistants that will come work for a coach in what is quite obviously his last year. And it's really unfortunate, because 2016 should have been lyle's last year here.

I can name $9.5 million reasons Butch won't be fired next year if he gets to 8 wins.

Two things that I would like to see out of CBJ (and this is just my opinion):

1. Lose the constant cliches and coachspeak. Speak from the heart and be real with everyone. People will like him more.

2. Let his foot off the brake and let his OC and DC coach. He is not Nick Saban and he is not Chip Kelly. He doesn't specialize in playcalling. Let "the best staff in America" do their job and hold them accountable. This requires he understands his strengths and weaknesses better.

And it states that other tires may be kicked, but he's staying? That's a very strange state of affairs. Sounds like someone who's trying to do a shakedown on his current employer. Probably bad timing for that sort of ploy.

I think it means Purdue wasn't interested and for now this (UT) is his "dream (maybe turning into a bad one) job" because he hasnt found a taker yet. It is interesting that this particular opinion left the door open for more "tire kicking".

He wants out but the door is locked?

Ignore it then.

I was serious....not being sarcastic...who is JAV??

You come in here posting that "Mission Statement" like it's straight out of Jerry Mcguire and by JAV....

...Who is JAV supposed to be?

...See, what pizzes me off is all these things that "JAV" says Jones is going to do in the upcoming year is what any VFL on here with any sense said he should have done last year..

He should have hired the correct coaches
He shouldn't try and micro manage the coaches he has.
He can't be such an ego maniac and listen to criticism.
He shouldn't have tried to make Dobbs a Pocket passer.
He should have lived up to his promise from last year of letting Hurd run out of the "I"
He Should get rid of Debord (this better happen)
He should stop with all the "champions of life" , "brick by brick" talk...these are the things coaches can do if they "WIN".

....and most importantly, He CAN NOT LOSE TO VANDERBILT AGAIN!!!!:banghead2:

If PJ Fleck leaves Western Michigan, I wouldn't be surprised if CBJ tries to go back home o Michigan

Good read. I think Butch staying is a given based on timing and the administrations reluctance to speed things up. If, and it's a big if, Butch gets someone of Helfrich or Applewhite quality and let's them run the offense and let's Shoop get his people and run the D, TN could be in for a very exciting run over the next few years.

The only reason that the next two years would be better with Butch Jones is because UT has an administration that manages sports almost as bad as he manages football games, and would probably screw up yet another hire.

You get a like. I agree with everything you said. The slogans and cliches are just embarrassing at this point. Go get assistants who know how t win games. Don't worry about the price. You get what you pay for. Work as a CEO type coach. That is is how butch succeeds. I'm still not sure if he does it though.
