Ticket Sales Down

Yea, but it was against a ranked Cuse team. Then th next game was #2 Florida in Knoxville.

A lot different than unranked GT followed by a home opener against Indiana State...
That is a totally different comment. You can't alter your hypothesis as you go.

Fans are finally showing they are tired of the same old stuff...UT has for years pooped in a box and labeled it candy and people were buying it and getting a bad taste in their mouths and now they are tired of it...UT didn't go after any top coaches seriously and settled on Pruitt....Not the guy everybody wanted including myself but I hope he kicks a$$ while he's here and I support him 110%...But people here wanted a proven winner and no decent coach out there wanted the job because of the "Toxic Culture"...UCLA got their guy and UF got their guy and Nebraska got their guy and UT got Pruitt...This hire reminds me of something Kentucky or Vandy would do not UT...People are in the show me don't tell me mood now so he had better produce, We are sick of this rebuilding stuff all the time now....Anyways sorry to be a Debbie downer but I just want us to get back to being UT again...Lets hope it begins tomorrow with WVU.

I had forgotten the Gators we're raned that high. Epic night

These 60" TVs were available last year weren't they? Didn't you have a comfy couch with beer in the fridge last year. I sold 3 extra pairs of season tickets, 4 extra tickets to the GA game and 2 extra tickets to the LSU game and made enough money to pay for my seats and donation plus some last year. This year I had to take a loss on 1 set of season tickets and didn't take the risk on more.

So the 60" TV and comfy couch comments are nonsense.

That is part of the problem. You are selling tickets to UGA and LSU fans. You think I want to go and sit beside them. The game in 2008 when Alabama took over the stadium was not our program's fault. It was the fan's who sold their tickets to Bama fans. Loyalty to this program is not what it is to some of the other SEC programs.

I'd like to think my TV and sound system are pretty good, and my couch is pretty comfy.

But if I could go to UT's site and buy tickets retail every week instead of having to scalp decent seats for 300 bucks, I'd be at every game at Neyland. And I live in Florida.
The scalper game has always been strong in Knoxville. Glad to see them take a beating the last few years.

If you could see the broader picture, I’m saying games like that gets the momentum going rather than beating ETSU 62-0 at noon for the home opener.

The cost of living continues to skyrocket while wages continue to be stagnant. This is the elephant in the room no one seems to want to talk about. A lot of people simply can't afford it anymore.

Wealthiest country in the history of mankind. Fewer people today work 2 jobs than they did 25yrs ago. Less than 4% of Americans live below the poverty line. Lowest level of unemployment we've seen in 18yrs.

Income distribution is definitely a bit top heavy, but if people are struggling financially it's because they 1)haven't positioned themselves to get a good job in an economy where there are many good jobs unfilled , 2) do not exercise financial responsibility. It's not because there isn't enough money going around.

Your original premise was that playing at home against Utah State was better than West Virginia at a neutral site for an opener. I'm just trying to pin down what you actually believe.

I'd much rather watch a game against a good opponent vs. a cupcake, even if that means we lose.

This is where I am now (FF row 21), and I will never give them up as long as I can afford them. I had to sell this yr due to my work schedule. By chance, I sat there for Utah St in 2014 and immediately upgraded to season tickets. I love being able to stand and lean against the club level.

Do you still have these season tickets? I had mine moved to BB R22 (against the club seat wall). I think I'm going to like it there.

Ticket sales are awful this year? Why are people so down when we have a new coach that might be a great one?

I don’t blame anyone for losing interest. The past 2 seasons have been the worst performance in the history of the program.

At least last season they had something to cheer about with two SEC wins, but the wheels feel off the last two games.

Vols should have made a bowl last season and didn’t.

Less than three short years ago, Tennessee and Neyland produced one of the best home field crowds v Florida that I have seen in 40+ years of watching football, a crowd that truly affected the outcome of the game.

That proves when motivated, Tennessee is one of the toughest places to play. Right now the program needs momentum and a reason to believe.

Last I heard we have about 63k season ticket holders. That’s impressive for all the nonsense the AD has put us through the last 15 years. I hope it pays off this time but the comments in this thread reinforce the theory that UT needs to start winning or a generation of fans will move on to more fulfilling areas.

I remember hearing this back when I was a kid... the Tennessee football seasons from 1975-1988 weren't much better than what we have had since 2005. There was one great season in '85... while '83 and '87 were pretty good but didn't end in either a major bowl game or an SEC Championship. Other than that? Those seasons sucked. However, Neyland was never anything but packed from '89 to '04. The fans always come back... and a generation is never completely lost. Just win.

You are right... Seeing a potential national champion play is something you can tell a son or grandson for years... saying you watched the worst vols team of all time (record wise) doesn’t help...

Also I think the TV thing you are under selling. It has definitely made the more casual fan less likely to be at the stadium.

I saw UT play in 1998 and have never told anyone.

Many already have switched. Have y’all seen all the Bama fans around?

Should have made a bowl? A 4-8 team, with a first year coach, playing one of the most brutal schedules in college football history? Nah.

Tennessee was favored in 3 games last year. Tennessee should have gone 3-9.

Football attendance in general is dropping across the board. A lot of people I know cant force their 10-25 year olds to care at all about sports, let alone pay to go to a game. When I was in my teens I ate, slept, and breathed athletics. Now it's YouTube, Twitch, etc.
