Thoughts on Clawson (merged)

I agree with most of this stuff. I said the other day that I feel bad for Clawson. He pulled up roots to take a chance at something bigger and through no fault of his own will probably not have a chance to grow any roots in Knoxville. The players have left a ton of points on the field by fumbles, ints, and penalties and Crompton has not even looked in the direction of some wide open receivers. What sucks is probably staring another year of Crompton in the face. I don't see any of the guys we have now or a true freshman unseating him next year.

It's either Crompton or Clawson's fault. I'm thinking it's Crompton. But then why isn't Stephens or Coleman not getting a look then? Are they that much worse than Crompton. Or is Crompton the one who knows the stystem the best.

i believe that clawson can and will be a good coordinator. he is nowhere near ready to be head coach.even if fulmer goes, clawson is staying, that will be part of the deal hamilton makes with whoever he hires. i also believe chavis and slade along with brooks probably would be out the door too. we just have to get younger, more creative, have more drive and a desire to bring tennessee back.

I say we should handcuff Fulmer and leave him at HC as a puppet for program stability. He'll get the all-time wins record and we won't have to pay the buyout. We'll get to keep Clawson, Scott and Drayton and get rid of Chavis, Slade and any other defensive position coaches that the new DC doesn't want. Bring in a new DC and let it be know that it's a competition between Clawson and the new DC to be Fulmer's replacement. This would let us audition our new HC, keep status-quo with our recruits and set us up for the long-term.

I wasn't a big fan of him being hired with some of the other offensive minds out there. But now that he is hired and he is Orange, to say he needs to go after 3 games into a season is a stretch even though he had all summer to set up an offense and MAKE SURE all the players were comfortable with it. Now my opinion on a coordinator is we should'nt have went d2 I'd just as soon he learn how to run an offense in the SEC on someone else's dime, get proven then we open the treasury.

It will take ALOT...and I mean ALOT to turn me against Clawson..

My reason...Randy Sanders...

Now hear me out...I'm not saying I'm a big fan of Randy Sanders or that I was sad to see him go....because I not and I wasn't...

But Randy Sanders was thrown under the bus because Fulmer refused to acknowledge(no matter what kind of cookie-cutter, "it's on me" speeches he gave in press conferences) that the problems with our program starts with him...

Now fast forward 3 years....lo and behold we have the same issues that tanked our 2005 season...

I am not and will not throw Clawson under the bus because of Fulmer's inadequacies as a HC...

The really sad part is that Clawson may never get the chance to show what he can really do with an offense

Cream always rises to the top Blamie. He may have to sweat it out, but if he is the real deal, he will live through it.

Great minds think alike! Looking at your previous posts, it is uncanny how much we agree on this topic. I just see that as the most painless way of changing things for the better and ensuring that the future is bright. Unfortunately, there's little to no chance of this situation happening.

I had the impression watching the play calling at UCLA that Clawson may have been overwhelmed by the big game atmosphere. I don't know much about the guy, but I truly believe coaching in the SEC is a performance level that can be intimidating and humiliating. Success elsewhere does not automatically translate in the SEC. BTW, what do you call Clawson's offense? Is it a pro set, spread, old school, innovative, power football, what?

I hope so...but conspiracy theorists around here have me believing Fulmer is the puppet master pulling Hamiltons strings and that nobody has the power to do anything about it...

And I want to make it clear that my refusal to blame anything on Clawson doesn't stem from any belief that he's infallable...

All I'm saying is that I bought into the Sanders forced resignation because I wanted to believe that he was the source of our woes and now, 3 years later, the real source of our issues it pretty obvious...and because of that I will not blame this years results on Clawson...in my mind our woes begin and end with Fulmer
