I keep seeing comments that Kim doesn’t run the huddles. People must be watching something I don’t see. I watched her the whole time at the tournament and the assistants were doing some instruction on the side but Kim definitely ran the huddles. I haven’t seen a difference between how we handle the team versus other coaches. People need to find another tree to bark up.

She hasn't done that most of the year though. Just recently started seeing her do that.

Yes, it seems someone pointed to CKC what the expectations were. She comes from DII where no one was watching - not the case when at a school like Tennessee.

It’s not the system it’s more of the players not doing what there supposed to, the laziness of some players missing layups, lazy passes, dribbling inside when your got two or three defenders around you and etc. So I wonder what the problem.

The problem is players aren’t going to play hard for a coach they don’t like or trust.

you could probably even get away with that as a handful of D1 schools. Not Tennessee though. I feel like some of the blame has to go to Danny who seemingly did not inform her of how it would be. Alternatively, sometimes people tell you how it will be, but you can't really grasp it until you experience it.

Since arriving in DI, including the year at Marshall, has Caldwell had an experienced DI mentor? I suspect not.

If she has the intelligence (I am certain she does) and the humility (the jury’s out) to recognize that she needs help, she will spend part of the quickly arriving off-season seeking counsel from some wiser, older coaches. It’s never too late to learn.

It may be even more frustrating for them when you consider that Coop, Janiah, and Wolf all have more SEC experience than Kim.

A big part of all this seems to be that no one involved communicates with anyone else. Maybe the A.D., the coaches and the players need to all get together and have one of those cheesy trust seminars where they fall backwards into each other’s arms

She said in a post game recently that a coach reached out & told her the second yr is always the hardest. Then at the LSU game Mulkey had 2 lengthy hugs & was in her ear. Mulkey said post game it was a little encouragement. I’d imagine some advice too.

Even an old timer who has had success continued (continues?) to learn. A few years back Auriemma spent time with NBA San Antonio, studying how Popovich ran practices.

So what does a coach with such a remarkable record dare chase next?

I do think she missed some of the expectations. In all sports at UT, there is the expectation that players are not just being coached for the sport they are playing but also that they are being coached on how to handle the media in terms of being visible, speaking intelligently, acting like adults and good stewards of the University.

Yes, that’s true. But substantial, successful head coaching experience is a different kettle of fish. Maybe some Bayou Bouillabaisse would help?

I also remember he asked her some variation of why she would get pregnant in her first year on the job he wasn't wrong tho.

It’s so odd to me that given her obvious lack of experience DW did not make sure those bases were covered. Feels like he hired her and then left her hanging out to dry in some ways. Im sure he’s very busy, but it seems with as much ego as he has invested in this hire he would’ve done more to make sure she was prepared in every area.

I will never let them live down the fact that they published a video during her initial media blitz in which she said she would never wear orange because she doesn't look good in it nor would she sing Rocky Top because her voice is too bad.

Lol, I forgot about that. You know you have to admire somewhat that Kim Caldwell simply cannot lie. On the other hand, Danny White lies easily as he breathes.Seems like he could help her.

Im not saying Kim has done everything right and not made mistakes. But I can't believe that some are defending some of our players who quit on the floor and talk back to coaches and act like babies. Its disrespectful to Lady Vol Name Fanbase and the Game itself. To say because they don't like system or coach who they signed up to play for her and system as excuses while cashing checks. I can't believe some on here excuse this behavior. No doubt Kim is learning valuable lesson and next off season she will return to first off season in conditioning. To me lessening the conditioning this year before season hurt this team more than anything and some of the returning players saw weakness and behaved like such shame on them. I don't disagree that Kim coddled some but these players to behave and quit the way they did is horrible no excuse for there actions none.
