Thoughts on Casey Clausen...?

Its all a matter of who plays around you. Clausen was one game away from getting UT to a rose bowl national championship.

Casey was a clutch performer indeed, remember the 5 OT game @ BAMA, 4th & 19 in the 2nd OT, and he completed the pass for a 1st down to CJ Fayton...& u know they went on to win that game 51-43 in 5 OT

I thought Casey was a great UTQB who had a little swagger that some of the home town Vols did not like. I still see comments here that impugn not only him but Ainge and Manning as well. Casey's road record speaks for itself and I loved his performances in the swamp.

Any chance of knocking Crompton the hell out and doing some sort of brain transplant?!?!?! He has the physical ability he just lacks the mental capacity to be a good QB...I along with every Vol fan in their right mind would love to have him back to take the snaps again!!!!

Casey was an excellent qb and loved the Vols. He was a gamer and man could we use him now. Someone on here said he was a road warrior....and that he was.

The biggest thing Casey had going against him was he was expected to be the next Peyton for us. He wasn't on Peyton's level obviously, but he was definately one of our better QBs over the ages. At the time he was here, I also felt we needed a better QB, but we were spoiled at the time. (I wouldn't say I thought he sucked, but I thought he was average to a little above average at the time, and I wanted the best.) Looking back at the QB play since Casey has left; I'd love to have a QB as good as Casey every year. He probably never got the credit he deserved from TN fans.

This was almost exactly what i was going to post. I feel the same way @ the time he was here i wasnt very high on him but the stats dont lie he is top 5 all time @ UT.

My only complaint about Casey was he never beat UGA. With me living in the heart of Dawgland I never heard the end of it!

I couldn't have said that any better. I felt the same way when we had Casey. I thought he kind of sucked when we had him but it was because I was spoiled on peyton. I wish we had a qb as good as casey now though. I will go as bold to that say if Casey was at the helm this year I think we would be 3-0. Ainge might have even been able to get it done at the swamp this year.

Couldn't stand him at the time, but now I realize I was WAY wrong. Clausen was a pretty darn good quarterback.

Gosh, I'm pretty surprised this is even remotely in question. Claussen freakin' SUCKED!!!

Just kidding. He is unquestionably a "gamer", had an awesome grasp of the game, played like he was born and raised in K-town and had ice water in his veins. I would sacrifice my cat to have him right now!!! LOL. Of course I'd knife that meower just for catfish bait too....if my wife did'nt know.
Casey is the epitome of a great COLLEGE qb

Ok so me and my girlfriend always seem to get into a disopute over this. She thinks Casey Clausen sucked. I big to differ. The stats don't lie. Well they arent good enough and she asks every other ignorant Vol fans what they think and they agree with her. I personally thought he was one of the most underrated palyers to play at UT. So what is you alls opinions on him so I can show her this lol.

All time passing yards #2 UT #8 SEC #32 NCAA
Passes Completed #2 UT #9 SEC
#6 SEC TD list
7-0 as a Freshman starter
Freshman All SEC team
3rd team Freshman All American
3-1 vs Bammer
2-1 vs FLA
4-0 in the state of Fla
14-1 at road stadiums
Had us one game away from playing in the Nation Championship
Shares UT record for most td passes in a game
Didn't get the nickname "Iceman" for nothing.

Please... tell your girlfriend that Gannon Goodson said she's an idiot and should never watch football again.

And to all the other noobs out there: Casey Clausen was a gamer... a very solid QB. End of story.

When Casey used to run, it felt like watching Scooby Doo take off. There were a few steps of wind-up, where he just didn't go anywhere. That was frustrating to watch.

Overall, though, Clausen was an excellent QB for the Vols. I guess my favorite performance of his was that bowl win over Michigan.

If he was at the helm we would have played one less game?

The one thing that will allways stick with me is his (Casey) tuffness. The 02 Arkansas game that went 6 OT. He broke his collar bone in that game and stayed in to lead us to victory.

Clausen was quite possibly the dumbest qb I've met off the field (think Crompton's on field IQ and then think of it's equivalent off the field), but he was a warrior on it.

True story: Clausen once said he had the "Heisman running through his veins" before his senior year.

Casey Clausen was a solid QB who took great advantage of the talent around him and played very well on the road. I think even if he were back in Knoxville, his numbers would be much worse on this team due to the talent differential at the other offensive positions. That being said, the guy was one of my favorite players at UT.
