Thought on Hurd and the offense

Let me first say that I really like Hurd as a back.
I believe however him leaving after this season is a huge mistake. Yes he may beat the it rushing records, however this season he has not put up the numbers and demonstrated his running ability as a dominant back. Even against some of the weaker teams he has not set himself apart as that ultra elite heisman caliber back that he has the potential to be.

Unless he blows out the rest of this season, I think he ( like North) despite incredible talent, hasn't had the opportunity to showcase his ability sufficient enough to attain the draft stock he deserves.
Come back next year with a more mature line and dominate. Then he gets higher draft pick and more money.
I not a pro scout but that is my humble opinion

Shelf life on backs in the NFL are short. They've seen enough from him that he will go high enough. He's gone and I wish him well. He's earned the check he's going to make.

Hurd may not fit this offense, but there's a reason he's the starter. He's going to be missed and frankly, what little chance we had this weekend is out the window if he isn't a 100% go Saturday. At the rate we're losing critical players, the UF/LSU game might not mean a darned thing as far as UT is concerned. Can this staff get the younger players ready to step in or will they stand pat and hang their hats on the more experienced but less talented players? I appreciate what Jumper has done and his tenacity to get where he is, but he will be exposed Saturday. They're going to attack him early and often. Picturing him in space against the athletes aTm will have....scary. As for Hurd, I've resigned myself that he won't be playing vs aTm regardless if the game time decision comment. Kamara and Kelly will certainly try to carry the load, but I'm pretty sure we've burned the RS for Fils Aime. If so, I liked what I saw earlier. Hope he's progressed enough and the staff has enough faith in him that he might get a few carries to see what he can do. I expect a long, hard day for the orange saturday.

Hurd fits this offense fine. I will say this as bad as it pains me to, the way he blocks and catches the ball along with his ability to run with the ball, there's no way he wouldn't be the #1 TE on an NFL board.

Life is short for a running back and Jalen has taken more than his fair share of punishment. He is the best back we have had in years and I hate to see him leave, but he needs to go get his money. I look forward to watching him in the NFL.

Hurd has been a major asset to this team--a good, tough back who has played with absolute crap offensive lines, with crap blocking, pretty much since he has been here. Hurd has probably amassed about 65 percent of his total running yardage as a Vol after breaking an initial tackle. As a freshman it was rare that he didn't get hit at the line of scrimmage or within two yards of the line of scrimmage. And, no, he hasn't been especially well served by an offense with a weak offensive line running with no fullback out of shotgun nearly all of the time. I'll take Hurd on my team....any day.

As I said in the original thread he has done an amazing job and can't wait to see him break the rushing record. I really think he will be more successful in a Pro-style offense. Got much love for the guy and he has been a work horse for the team. I just see him as a more strait up the field runner all north and south. Put him in an I formation with a lead full back and the kid is gonna start breaking long runs.

There is a possibility that this could work in our favor because no one has seen what jelly brings to the table. With that being said, we need Hurd back for bama ASAP. Hurd makes this offense go.

Agreed. I love him more than anyone, but I definitely think he'd be more successful in pro style. He's an awesome vertical runner, whereas Kamara is a great horizontal runner. He would be perfect in the I-from as we saw against northwestern.

I have always said that JK (or now JJ) hits like Vol34...his giftedness shows in hitting the defender when the defender isn't expecting it. it makes for 2001 Florida moments.

I think that Jelly will help us get out of a jam. Just have to spread it around a bit and hope that he doesn't get squashed like a grape.

My apologies. I'm nervous.

He blocks great for a RB. A great blocking TE is practically an extra OL...I don't see that. Maybe as H-Back or a better blocking less explosive Jimmy Graham. Still see his pro career at downhill running back.

Not sure why people say he doesnt fit the offense.
The offense just snaps the ball in the shotgun everything else they do with TE's and lead blockers combined with zone blocking are all 'pro' concepts.
We just dont have a very good line.

On Hurd. The passes somewhat over the middle he has been thrown (don't remember him dropping one) have been a thing of beauty. On time in step, everything good. I wonder if the same mesh will be in play with other backs and will they catch it as well?

From what I've seen he blocks like an elite tackle. Plus he might take less of a beating that a lot of people seem concerned about.

Agree, Hurd has been very good catching the ball out of the backfield as well.

I think people just don't like the spread type offense.

Don't see Debord stopping the up the middle calls. Hurd could get the really tough yards when blocking is bad, he will be missed Sat!

.

But just maybe, Debord will get a little more creativity....just maybe

Hurd is a beast.

His runs, over the course of a game, takes a toll on the defense. They have to stack the box to stop him. This opens up the middle of the field for pass routes as well as getting one on one for our WR's. His blocking from the backfield has saved Dobbs many times. He also has great hands and is a threat to recieve passes from the RB position. He does it all.

How some people don't understand this by saying he doesn't fit this offense is nuts.

We disagree...so does the game of football. Hurd doesn't block like an OL and TEs that participate in a blocking scheme take a lot more damage than a blocking running back. Simple body mass indexes. Blocking 300 lb linemen vs safeties or linebackers.

Hurd can fit this system just fine, the online couldn't block a high school DLine is what's the problem. OSU backs have no problem in similar system. Line coach needs to be gone. If the line coach isn't the problem then it's OL talent evaluation
