This one hurts...

No. Several of you have said that in different ways but he isn't "telling it exactly like it is". He strung some mostly unrelated events from the last few years together and then drew some conclusions. Part of his conclusion is that Pruitt is a continuation of Jones so what he did last year should in no way be mitigated by it being his first year. Yeah, Helton had success elsewhere. But truth be told... his OL at WKU was probably bigger, stronger, better developed, and better trained than the one he inherited from Jones. You cannot ignore that handicap. You cannot ignore the fact that JG had either been very poorly coached and developed or simply could not "get" reads and catch up to the speed of the game.

The only thing necessarily "true" about it is that it is truly his OPINION... and not fact.

IMHO, the reports out of this camp have been fairly muted. A few nice comments about a few guys but "hype"? Is Pruitt even capable of "hyping" someone without then qualifying it with "but he still has a long ways to go"?

The reason to believe or not believe in this season comes down to something he evaded. The OL and DL. The OL is bigger and stronger. That was the majority of their problem last year. They were trying to block guys who were bigger and stronger than they were. I think Pruitts said that something like 3 OL's this time were over 300 in reality and this year it is 11?

The DL is just a huge enigma. They have SEC size and athleticism. But none have really played. Hopefully it helps that UT gets two warm ups before getting to an OL that really has the ability to give them a big challenge.
yep. this.

hard to really say that hoping to go 7-5 is getting "hype".

lol.

I have to say, I don't care what others thing. I will watch the games, more than likely with one eye closed and wearing my Vols gear, holding my breath the whole game and cheering no matter what. I hope for the best no matter who we are playing. GBO

Tennessee football: No reason to believe fall camp stories hyping up Vols

Hard to argue against his point of view, but I do think we will see a much more competitive team this year.

This season needs to start...
Isn’t this the same guy that said Thomas Davis was classless for ribbing Crouch? No context at all, didn’t do any checking on their relationship as to why TD would comment to Crouch. I doubt he did his homework on this piece either.

TD trained Crouch and said he is one of ‘his boys’,

Caleb Calhoun doesn't appear old enough to be shaving. He's filling his requisite space preseason and feeling cool because of his detached skepticism.

Be not bothered. Trust those of us who have been around long enough to count the decades using both hands. Embrace the hope eternal. GBO.

That's what journalism is these days - right or left. They're "opinion makers". Some would call that propaganda. Some, IMHO, would be right.
Actually it’s no longer called “journalism” and the hacks (yes that’s an acceptable term) no longer try to disguise it. Thankfully most people have been educated to the point they recognize it for what it is...now I don’t have a problem with opinion writers (which is what this piece appears to be) when they give you a disclaimer on front end.

He wasnt out of line. AAMOF... He's got a much better chance of being right than wrong, unfortunately. Im tired of being fed chicken **** from this AD only to be told its chicken salad.
If you eat the chicken sh!t first, it’s on you if you believe them afterwards when they say it was chicken salad.....

All I had to see was who wrote it and new immediately it was garbage. Everytime I've seen something that idiot has written it's almost like he's trying to get revenge on UT because someone in an orange shirt used to beat his ass daily.

Who is this guy anyways? Everything I’ve seen from him is either poorly edited, “no duh”, or the bane of digital media today those stupid lists that make you click a dozen times so you’ll see more ads (thanks a lot bleacher report...).

This particular article is so outrageous because he starts with the unconscionable premise of “at some point, we have to stop blaming the coaches.” What?! At what point are the people getting paid millions of dollars to develop players and get them to operate as a unit no longer responsible?

Furthermore who is responsible if not the handsomely compensated coaches? The 18-22 year old kids certainly shouldn’t bear that kind of weight. It seems to me that Mr. Calhoun would want us to believe that it’s the fan’s fault for placing these expectations on the team in the first place. No, Caleb. If any fan base has the right to have high hopes for their team it’s this one. This place has been a dumpster fire in the center of a three ring circus for fifteen years and we finally have a guy in here who looks and acts like a football coach. Forgive us for our 7-5 optimism you pretentious know-it-all.

What this column seems to be doing is complaining that our coaches have the nerve to be positive and complementary of their players in August. Would it help matters at all if the staff was as negative as this guy? I doubt it.

Love to see clickbait like this. As an old Wall Streeter this tells me the Vols are about to turn it around big. I’m a buyer now.

O line play. That is all. Either we have it and it unlocks everyone else's potential or we repeat last year. If the offense can't stay on the field, then how the heck are you supposed to have an offensive star? If the defense is always on the field because the offense can't maintain drives, the defense will eventually fatigue and injuries will Mount up. Then even the best defensive players look bad. At this level of football, every position group must have solid play. They don't all have to play Lights Out, but they at least have to look like they belong on the field. That allows true Superstars to carry the load of the team.
